Not only is he batting .110 with only 1 RBI on the season, but now LA reporters are calling him fat (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-simers13apr13,1,6365046.column).

Poor Andruw. Getting booed for his .341 OPS and now the weight issues start. At least it took 7 years or so for those to start in Atlanta.

From the article linked above:
Talked to the Dodgers' Andruw Jones before Saturday night's game, and he whiffed again.

I wanted to know if the tubbo thought he could maybe hit his weight at some point this season.

He said he's not fat and doing just fine, apparently envisioning himself as some sort of supermodel and weighing in with a .105 batting average.

He said he's 240 pounds, and I said no way, and so he said, "Do you want me to go weigh myself?" (McCarroll21 Note: He's listed at 210 on Dodgers.com)

I said, "Yes, I do," and he said the scale was off limits to the media because as you know the Dodgers get their jollies making most areas around here off limits to people.

"Let's go," I said while leading him to the scale, and he checked in at 248 pounds. "My shoes are on," he said, sounding more like my wife than the Dodgers' center fielder.

I suggested a diet contest benefiting Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA since I would like to drop a ton before a special event in June, but Jones wanted no part of it.

"You're hilarious," he said. "I don't have to prove really nothing."C'mon Andruw! At least hit your weight!

I just read that article in the LA Times. The fans Boo whenever his name comes over the PA. Looks like he will a couple more chances before Torre pulls him. 18 Million a year and the guy can't lose 20 pounds.

Listed at 210 by the Dodgers is crazy. I understand shaving off a few pounds, but listing him almost a full 40 pounds under his weight is too much.

They may have looked at his 2007 weight. He lost all that weight and was down to 210 last year, I believe.

Agreed. I guess it's harder to justify paying 36 million over 2 years to a 248 lb center fielder coming off a poor season at the plate.

Andruw is struggling hardcore but that's no reason for that reporter to take cheap shots at him in the article. what a talent-less, class-less ass the reporter is.

I agree.

However, he's not in Atlanta anymore. The media could really care less in Atlanta. In these bigger baseball cities, they're going to ride you hard and Andruw's going to have to start putting up or he's going to have to deal with this.

I agree completely. There is no reason to call the man tubbo. I don't beleive his weight would be the reason that he's struggling.

I agree. I have always been one of the ones to jump on andruw for being so lazy, but that reporter went over the line with that.

Alot of it is his fault, but I actually feel sorry for andruw.

good, I'm not the only one who feels that way. Let's not forget about the years Andruw spent in Atlanta. No reason to be bashing him. Players always seem to struggle in the first month when they change teams.

I agree completely. There is no reason to call the man tubbo. I don't beleive his weight would be the reason that he's struggling.

The man is paid $15 or so million per year to be a professional athlete, and he is not holding up his end of the bargain. If his approach to the game is--and always has been--one where he goes out there and expects his raw talent to allow him to not have to put forth the proper effort, then I think the reporter was well within his right to make such a comment. In other words, he treated AJ with the same level of respect, class, and dignity that AJ has treated the game, the Braves, and now the LA Dodgers.

I genuinely feel bad for Andruw. Even though he's in LA, he'll always be a Brave and I'll always be a fan. I feel kind of protective over him. Leave my baby alone!

Still better than David Ortiz - 3 for 43David Ortiz has nothing prove, though. Ortiz batted .332 with 35 HRs and 117 RBI last year. He also had an OPS+ of 171 and an OPS of 1.066.

Andruw has been slumping for well over a year now. Ortiz is just off to a slow start.

True, but think about what would be going on here if Kotsay were to start the year 4-40.

I agree, you don't say that crap about your own players. And it sounds like Torre doesn't like Druw too much either. Granted, Andruw needs to have a better attitude though.

A better attitude? Why look at him! He's still smiling\smirking at everything, what better of an attitude could you ask for eh? :P
/sarcasam/
On a serious note if I were him I'd prob. still be smiling too - getting paid this year and next regardless of how I do. After all it's all about how his momma feels about him lol

It's bad when your on the lead off part of the ESPN morning show, "First Take" and they're talking about how bad your batting. The LA beat writer (forgot his name), said that Joe Torre will most likely not bench AJ.

Well, when you are getting the money Druw is, a team really can't afford to bench him. And even with him hitting half his weight, I would still take him striking out over Juan Pierre.

While you guys dwell on the negatives, i will focus on the positives of this scenario...For instance, when you eat barbeque at the game and you get a hunk of meat stuck in your teeth, you could always go down to the dugout and bum a toothpick from ole skip.

That's cool if you can actually afford one of those BBQ sainches....last year I had to open a line of credit just to buy a couple of 'em....I think they cost like $99 each.

Andruw Jones, CF, Los Angeles Dodgers: I'm guessing both he and Juan Pierre will sail through waivers without anyone thinking about putting in a claim, as both are expensive and having horrible years. After they clear, Jones should be the player easier to trade; he has just one year left on his deal (as opposed to three for Pierre) and less money for the Dodgers to have to offer to remove him from their roster. I've also speculated that the Dodgers might outright Jones off their 40-man roster and assign him to Triple-A Las Vegas. It won't clear them of the financial responsibility, but it would free up the wasted spot on the 25-man roster. Jones has looked slow, tired and out of shape all season, but if the Dodgers eat more than half his salary, they might find a team willing to buy low and see whether he will put up a better contract year in 2009 than he did in '07.
