Joe D's hitting streak along with Iron Man's consec. games played would have to be my two top picks from the list you gave. Nobody will touch either of those records. I doubt if anyone will come near Hershiser's scoreless innings streak for a long long time either.

I remember Maddux made a pretty good run in 2000ish, but still was like 20 innings short

For me pretty much all of them are equal because they are the longest ... It's like comparing the biggest banana and the biggest apple ... in the ends it comes to whether you prefer apples or bananas. The braves streak lasted 14 years during which any other team in the east was better. That's enough for me.

UCLA won 88 straight games.

88!

Sheer mathmatics would try to make that an impossibility.

Hopefully the Yankees don't continue their run at it, though Theo Epstein may be incompetant enough to allow the Yankees to go to the playoffs year after year even though Boston leads in July. How many years has that happened in a row now again? I have lost track. Anyway, I votes for Hershiser's scoreless inning streak, that is just crazy.

Ripken no question. With moeny the way it is today the Braves streak can be almost bought. Favre has an amazing streak but he's never played 162 games a year either.

yeah but its a lot easier to get hurt in football. usually, players that play in the NFL for a long time eventually have one season that they more or less miss because of injury. But I got to go with the Braves streak. I realize i am extremely biased in saying that but so what.

it's an opinion question, so i think your bias is alright. when you start writing for the New York Times you might want to drop the bias.

As I see it it's easier to sit out of practice for a week and then play one game hurt. Baseball players have to go out there every day of the week. Both are incredible streaks but the sheer number of games Ripken played is just unthinkable to me.

I agree. Ripken's streak is nothing more than stupid to even think about.

lets also give some credit to Dimaggio's hit streak. whenever anyone gets to a 30 game or so streak, people start talking about Dimagio's record but no one ever seems to come close.

Good point, though Joe D had it easier than today's players.

Patriots 21 game win streak. In the modern NFL, winning all games in one season is near impossible, with trades and free agents going on, each team is hard to decide if they're going to be good or not. see Chicao last year, Miami this year, and countless other examples.

Gagne's 55 consecutive saves in one season are impressive too.
