Keeper Details

Teams will keep 6 players (turned in on a date to be selected later)
After the season is completed, teams can trade players up until the roster freeze date (to be selected later)
Draft order will be determined by reverse finish from prior year

It may not go in direct order of finish. The last place team from the 2008 season will be able to pick where he/she would most like to pick in the 2009 draft. Then the 11th place finisher will pick, etc.

The draft will snake

A couple of thoughts...

I think there is a bit too much overlap in the BB, TB and OPS categories, giving the already valuable premier hitters even more value. I would recommend replacing TB with K, and maybe even throwing H in there to give lower power guys more value. On the pitching side, while HLD does give RP more value, that is undermined somewhat by the IP category. Maybe replace IP with K/BB or something?

I do like the idea of adding H's for the singles guys who normally might be drafted for SB's only.

If BB and TB overlap into OPS, wouldn't H overlap into AVG? I like the hitting categories. I think they suit every kind of hitter.

K/9, ERA and WHIP are also there for setup men. I put K/9 in to offset the IP category so that starting pitchers wouldn't have a CLEAR advantage.

I'm not sure about changing the categories. I don't feel that they really help any particular kind of player moreso than another.

I'll look into some other things, but it's going to be hard to find something that doesn't have ANY amount of overlap.

Just go by what you've got in the first post. That's fine by me.

Same here.

I'm in the same boat, I just want to find something that suits everyone as this is a keeper league and everyone needs to be able to know they have a say in their league. I just want to avoid creating TOO MANY categories. I know H2H is more fun with more categories, but there is a thing called too much.

The categories in the first post look fine to me, but I wouldn't be opposed to changing a couple if some people want that.

How many guys do we get to keep? And is this for a set number of years or will just go on as long as people are interested?

I say 4 keepers

1 Catcher
1 Infielder
1 Outfielder
1 PitcherI'd say go year-to-year cuz you'll always have turnover in participants

I think that you should be able to keep 4 players total, at any position. Because what if you have 2 stud OFs, then you have to drop one.

I've never been in a keeper league, so I have no idea what the norm is, but I prefer we get keep more guys in the 6-7 range. I think keeping teams closer to the year before would be for the better and help with the rivalry factor. If would also make drafting that much more important.

I agree with that.

Keeping 6; no position requirements

Reading is fundamental I suppose, I had looked back at the first post too, guess I just missed it. 6 is a good number though, it'll allow us to keep our core together.

Have yall thought about who you are going to keep for next year?

I've got two that I'm definitely keeping. The others I'm not so sure about.

Some changes for 2009:

DL spots go from 1 to 2 players.
Bench spots go from 3 to 5 players.

I know some were shorthanded last year with some keeper quality players going to the DL and leaving them short on roster moves. This should give you more flexibility. It gives us two more players to draft, but since the first six rounds will automatically be selected for us, it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Some changes for 2010:

Next year our keepers will expand from 6 players to 8 players.

I didn't want to do that for this year because owners have made trades to get six keepers, but with the two additional roster spots, we're going to add two additional keeper spots, as well. That will not go into effect until next off-season, but keep this in mind while managing your team in 2009.

Damn I wish we could keep 8 players this year, make it easier on me

Would be easier on me, too, but I couldn't change the rule this late in the game.

Yeah, I would have loved to keep 8 since I had excess keeper material but I specifically made a trade to get down to 6. Thanks for taking that into account.
