Just a thought; IMO, H2H leagues are more fun when there's more scoring categories. BB, K, AVG, OPS, SB, CS, H, R, 1b, 2b, 3b, HR for offense, IP, K, BB, WHIP, ERA, W, L, S, and perhaps holds if you're really wanting deep rosters.

Notice that some of the settings have changed.

We talked about it last night in the chat and decided that we should change the way we're doing the free agent system. The way we have it set up now is that we have no waivers but teams will only be able to make 40 free agent pickups throughout the year. This will keep people from churning their players.

We also did away with the trade deadline.

This is fine, but if by "churning their players" you mean frequently turning over the bottom end of the lineup to achieve an optimal combination, I think that is a perfectly valid management tool whenever it is allowed within league rules.

I'm talking about the people who make mass subs. Having a maximum acquisition limit will keep people from adding/dropping players on a daily basis. 40 isn't a hard thing to do. No one in our league from a year ago made more than 40 moves except for myself, and I think I made 45.

It makes your draft more important when you can't add/drop every day.

I'm not personally a fan of a no-waiver policy, since it favors folks who have access to the computer all day long and who can jump on players the minute they are dropped. While the transaction limit would help with that a little, it still takes a bit of the level out of the playing field IMHO.

We'll look to the re-draft leagues that we hold this year to look for potential replacements if someone backs out. I don't imagine anyone backing out before the draft this year ... I don't foresee that being a problem with the group we've selected.

McCarroll21

Might be something we look into in future years, but keeper leagues need stability and if we created two it would essentially eliminate any people we had to fill any open vacancies after year one.

Draft date is March 12 at 9:30 PM CT. It's the only decent time I could find. If I made the draft date later, the only times would be 10:00 Central which would put you East Coasters late at night.

I changed up the settings some. I can change it if you don't like it.

Instead of a maximum acquisitions for the season, I put a maximum of 5 acquisitions per week. That shouldn't be too harsh, but it will prevent people from mass dropping.

I also added some stat categories to give us more categories to play with.

In addition to the 6x6 that we had, I added total bases and walks to the hitters and holds and K/9 for the pitchers. That will make setup men valuable, to some extent.

All of you will get a PM shortly with details on how to join.

I changed the settings to have one day of waivers. I think that would compromise with those who wish not to have them. I would imagine that everyone will be active enough to not need more than one day, right?

I kept the no waivers after the draft. Everyone not drafted will immediately become free agents.

These last few posts seem like gently veiled criticism of my fantasy strategy, and there have been other comments about it previously, and that's cool, but I guess I should address the issue directly.

My frequent roster changes resulted in ongoing improvement of my team, not just filling up roster spaces. Look over my roster today and you will see it is not filled up with disposable scrubs, but solid players who - due to improved play or injuries or trades - became standouts at some point during the season, or became available when one of the other teams dropped them.

Last week was a good example of my drop/add strategy. I added three injured players - two FA's and a waiver pickup - that I expected to return in time for the fantasy finals, and two of them are doing great now. I dropped the third when it became apparent his productivity would be less than expected, and in the meantime two of my other players (Gerald Wallace and Drew Gooden) went down with injuries, which necessitated some other moves. That's been my general approach all season - add players that I think will play well and help me win, and drop the ones I don't expect to contribute as much. That's why I won most weeks, not just compulsive 'roster churning' to get a few points from some scrubs with busy schedules.

Anyway, we all play by the same set of rules, so what the heck. Frankly I'm glad to see the five-move limitation for the baseball leagues so those who depend more heavily on the quality of their draft - as opposed to ongoing, active management of their roster throughout the season - won't be doing the sour grapes dance again in October.

JCStone7
04-08-2008, 09:05 AM
Not saying anything was wrong with it MPH. It's within the rules, everyone gets ticked off for seeing the first place man using the waiver wire successfully. I did it a few years ago in fantasy baseball (using spot starters daily) the opposition bitched so much that I didn't play with them again (these were my close friends too). So I know where and what you were doing and I'm cool with it.

My post was just a general distinction that I might've done it too if I had the time.

I was already wasting a bench spot on Justin Upton so I couldn't waste another as cold as Bruce is.

:) My team's not doing that great this year. Might as well try to rack up as many possible keepers as I can. If I get too many, I can always try to package them for something over the off-season.

Blocked me, too, although I've already got at least two keepers in the outfield. Stinkin' waiver wire is rewarding the teams that are higher up; I smell a conspiracy! :D

I've got quite a few keeper options, too.

Geovany Soto, David Ortiz, Evan Longoria, Josh Hamilton, Matt Holliday, Alex Rios, Carl Crawford on offense and then Felix Hernandez, James Shields and Chad Billingsley on my pitching staff.

It's going to be hard to narrow that down to six, but if nothing else I can try to package a couple together somewhere for a team looking for depth and get a better keeper.

Ha ha, I have good players, but I did a very poor job managing them. They deserve better. I suck. :(

When do we have to decide our keepers by? And we get 6?

I was about to post this.

I'll post a new thread about it and stick it so it doesn't get lost.

Nice waiver pickup Stoney. I was hoping no one in front of me (which is about 10 of you) wouldn't notice he had been added.

That was going to be my sole purpose for picking him up. To add him to the guys that would be worth keeping and maybe being able to package a couple of these guys together to improve on my keepers for next year.

Thanks! I started out so poorly this season it never crossed my mind that I could even claw my way into the playoffs, let alone win them.

Next year we have to add another DL slot. When your top 4 or 5 guys are on the DL, it really limits your ability to field a competitive team.

I've copied everyone's rosters and am posting them all in the off-season roster thread. I'm trying to post them under everyone's username so you will have the ability to go back and edit the roster.

It will be closed again soon, I just wanted to let you know why you're seeing it posted under your name and tell you that I will post them for you, you don't have to go in and post yours.

McCarroll21

Okay, everyone's rosters are posted. Most teams actually have 26 players because they had a player on the DL at the end of the season.

Refer to this thread (http://www.braves-nation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12565) for more information on other teams' rosters and deadline dates.

You may only trade players right now, if someone is on free agents, you will have to wait for the draft to have a chance at them. The only players eligible to be moved right now are those on each person's roster.

Remember you have six keepers.

By the way, I want to thank all those folks who passed on Albert Pujols due to concerns about his health, allowing him to drop to me at #7.
