The Giants are ramping up their pursuit of a leadoff-hitting center fielder, with Juan Pierre and Gary Matthews Jr. the prime targets.
Pierre drove 120 miles from his home near Miami and met with Giants officials Thursday at the general manager meetings in Naples, Fla. Last week, Giants director of player personnel Bobby Evans met with Matthews' agent, Scott Leventhal.
The Giants are thought to have three-year offers worth about $10 million per season on the table for both players.Pierre for $10 million annually? Matthews doesn't deserve it either but at least he provides more than one tool. My goodness. Pierre isn't even good defensively, he's got a worse throwing arm than my granny... All he can do is run fast.
Oh to be fast and below average in everything else.
