Wildcard Weekend<O></O>
By: Brandon Van Hoesen
Earlier tonight, wildcard weekend was wrapped up with the Chargers beating the Titans 17-6. The Titans defense played well and kept it close, but their offense just didn't give them any help and eventually the Chargers broke through. In the afternoon game, the Giants won their 8th straight road game against the Buccaneers behind a very strong game from Eli Manning 24-14. With a short passing game and a consistent running game, the Giants controlled the game after a slow start in the 1st and the game really wasn't as close as the score indicates. It was good to see 60 minutes of Giants football without seeing the Manning face even once. Yesterday, the Redskins fought hard for three and a half quarters until the game unraveled on the Redskins and Todd Collins, who threw two interceptions for touchdowns that put the game out of reach at 35-14. In the second game, the Jaguars pulled out a 31-29 victory on a late field goal after blowing an 18 point 4th quarter lead to the Steelers.
This week finally kicked off the big BCS bowl games, and then zero drama ensued. First, USC manhandled Illinois in a game that was over in the first quarter and ended 49-17. Ironically, "the Juice" finally got caught versus USC; O.J.'s alma mater. Later that day, Georgia did their best to one up the Trojans by mauling Colt Brennan and his fellow Warriors. Not that he had much of a chance in this game, but in the three or four games I've seen Brennan he has looked underwhelming even against inferior competition. Is it too early to call him Ty Detmer Jr.? The next day, we got another thriller in WVU's beatdown on Bob Stoop's Sooners 48-28; who have lost 4 consecutive BCS games. Wasn't there a point where Bob Stoops was considered a big game coach? In the last BCS game before the championship game, Kansas beat Virginia Tech 24-21 in a game that wasn't really that close nor entertaining. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /><st1:state u1:st="on"><ST1><st1:state w:st="on"><ST1>In addition this week, we had Michigan </ST1></st1:state></ST1></st1:state>with a big upset over Florida and Tebow/Harvin15 still hasn't been seen since over at C2CB. <O></O>
