The Rocket, The Tuna, and The Lull in College <O></O>

In baseball this week, the Mitchell Report lives on. Now, Congress plans more hearings on the PED fiasco and plans to subpoena Mitchell Report names. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict their is no Dikembe Mutombo-esque finger wagging this time. Also, Roger Clemens has claimed to feel "almost numb", but there has been no word on whether that was from the steriod allegations in the Mitchell Report or the needles. There have also been a few signings this week with Paronto being signed by the Astros, Mahay to the Royals, Silva to the Mariners, and Vizcaino to the Rockies. The Braves also got in on the free agency market by signing Javy Lopez earlier in the week. My sources tell me it's an incentive laden deal that pays him based on mL of HGH injected.
In the NFL, things just keep getting worse for the Falcons. Not only are they getting pummeled on the field basically every week, but you know it's really bad when Parcells stiff arms your franchise to join a 1-14 team. Speaking of the Dolphins, their 1 game winning streak quickly came to an end when the Patriots jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the 2nd quarter and then coasted to an easy win. In Buffalo, Kevin Everett made his first appearance in <ST1><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 /><st1:city w:st="on">Buffalo</st1:city></ST1> since he sustained a severe spinal cord injury in the Bills' season opener. The emotion sparked a 14-0 start by the Bills, but they faded to a 38-21 lost to the Giants, who won their 7th straight road game. But it's still hard to be an optimistic Giants fan when the quarterback attempts only 3 passes in the whole half and 2 are caught by the other team. The Cowboys locked up homefield with a win last night and the Packers loss today. They look like the team to beat in the NFC, as long as Jessica Simpson doesn't steal too much of the spotlight from TO, well that and not having to kick a game winning field goal with Romo holding.
In collegiate play this week, it's been kind of a dead time. College football is finally back with 5 bowl games having been played, but none are really of any significance. I loathe the ridiculously long layoff for the top teams. Maybe we can get some <st1:street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on"><ST1><st1:city w:st="on">Boise </st1:city></ST1>St.</st1:address></st1:street> magic in tonight’s game. In basketball, the two big games this week were Pittburgh-Duke and Memphis-Georgetown. Pittsburgh pulled out a nail biter with a last second 3 in Madison Square Garden and Memphis handled Georgetown 85-71 yesterday. Calipari has built up quite the program down there in Conference USA, I guess it's easier to beat up on Rice, East Carolina, and Houston than the Atlantic Division in the NBA.
