Well, he beat Beckett, who I wanted, but well-deserved.

From Rotoworld:
He claimed 19 of 28 first place votes.

It was close between C.C. and Beckett, but I'd give it to Sabathia as well based on the inning pitched advantage he had.

Well, Sabathia did win by a larger margin than I thought he would (33 points).

Beckett had the benefit of being on the best team. The Indians weren't supposed to be THAT good

I agree, but I just think that Beckett pitched better, in terms of seeing him. Either one would be a great choice, though.

Sabathia was the AL Cy young winner in my mind for the regular season (obviously Beckett was insane in the playoffs after the awards are already handed in). His record against Johan Santana would have been the deciding factor for me.

Today is a great day! CC pitched 40 more innings, and ate 30 more cheeseburgers, he wins!

Plus it has infuriated the Red Sox fans that Beckett didnt win it...which is always a plus

Josh Beckett was robbed! There is no way he was outpitched by CC in the regular season and certainly not in the playoffs.Who won the World Series? The Red Sox. Who is their ace? Josh Beckett, who beat Sabathia in the ALCS and sparked the Red Sox come back.

Point being, the Red Sox had no chance advancing to the series without Beckett pitching like he did. He was masterful all season long. I don't care for innings when determining a Cy Young winner, I want wins and I want clutch wins along with ERA.

It's known I am a huge Beckett fan, but biases aside, he was the best pitcher in ALL of baseball this season

I tend to agree that Beckett should have won it, but the playoffs have no bearing on the Cy Young award.

The postseason has nothing to do with the CY voting.

This site does a good job of comparing the two, including their stats:

Sabathia vs. Beckett, a Cy Young Award breakdown (http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/10/sabathia_vs_beckett_a_cy_young.html)

<table a="" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" width="150"><tbody><tr> <td>
</td> <td>Sabathia</td> <td>Beckett</td></tr> <tr> <td>Starts</td> <td>34</td> <td>30</td></tr> <tr> <td>Record</td> <td>19-7</td> <td>20-7</td></tr> <tr> <td>ERA</td> <td>3.21</td> <td>3.27</td></tr> <tr> <td>Innings</td> <td>240</td> <td>200 2/3</td></tr> <tr> <td>Whip</td> <td>1.141</td> <td>1.141</td></tr> <tr> <td>Walks</td> <td>37</td> <td>40
</td></tr> <tr> <td>Strikeouts</td> <td>209</td> <td>194</td></tr> <tr> <td>Home Runs</td> <td>20</td> <td>17</td></tr></tbody></table>
You can make an argument for each, but under no circumstances can you make a claim that Beckett was "robbed".

Incidentally, wins are virtually worthless when evaluating a pitcher.

Thanks for the stats Hobbes! I thought Sabathia deserved it more, but I hadn't seen the stats side by side. I only wish Smoltz had gotten a little run support so his name would be popping up in the NL race.

Again, as others have said the post season has no outcome.....

With the playoffs in mind Beckett hands down wins it all but, CC deserved it as well....its just amazing that CC got 19 of 28 first place votes....

The huge disparity in innings pitched is what won it in such a landslide for C.C.

The important question that has to be asked: Can the Braves acquire Sabathia for Chuck James, Brandon Jones, and Martin Prado:cool:

Haha. Sure, maybe if we throw Chipper in to sweeten the deal.

I'm just glad Beckett didn't win the Cy Young.
Why?

JayDonnelly10

Why?

Because some people dont like the Red Sox? Or him?

Its someones opinion, hes happy Beckett didnt win it, shit im happy Beckett didnt win it, no one is saying he isnt just as deserving Im just happy he didn't win it.

People still have his playoff performances stuck into their minds which gives him an advantage, regular season he doesnt have an advantage other than 1 more win.

You have to be a Red Sox fan? You hated that I bashed the Red Sox repeatedly in Red Sox and Schilling related threads, which was just my opinion!

Its peoples opinions on the message board, you can ask for someones reasoning behind their thoughts but dont criticize anyone for their opinions....
