Saw it on mlbtraderumors.com about how we aren't going to get a Center Fielder in Free Agency so we should try to trade for one. I know he was mentioned to be traded to us during the trade deadline, so what would everyone think about him being in center for a few years, until our youngsters get ready to play in the majors??

this was discussed in one of the other threads....I think the one about Terrance Moore since he is the one who wrote about Griffey which is what mlbtraderumors took that from and has a link to

There comes a point where we should just acquire the damn guy just so all these rumors would stop. Not calling anyone out of course, but it just gets ridiculous. Every year it's "Griffey to the Braves?" or "Marion getting traded out of Phoenix?" My teams are cursed with this I guess.

I'd enjoy having Griffey on the Braves, but boy would I be scared shitless that him and Chipper would get injured at the same time...and then the chance of Escobar having a sophomore slump and barely being a #8 hitter, and Diaz possibly getting the everyday job in LF and proving why everyone said he should only be a platoon player...That would suck....

Griffey is a shell of what he once was. He is fast approaching "the corpse of" status.
mlbtraderumors is a terrible site. You could start your own site, cruise other message boards and newspaper sites. Post whatever you feel like and you'd have as much credibility as mlbtradetumors does.

Jr. is in the twi-light of his career, obviously. He's better suited as DH, given his limited range, which might explain why the Reds haven't showcased him as CF trade bait.

The ideal CF has the ability to play shallow, go back on long balls and cover the ground the LF and RF can't make up on balls sent up the alleys. Given that criteria, I don't see either Griffey Jr., or anyone short of Willie Harris (a stopgap solution) from the 2007 Braves final roster getting the job done.

The Braves now have 3 young players, one of whom may emerge to TAKE the job in Spring Training. To me, that's the best option rather than go for an aging rent-a-player who won't figure into the Braves' plans for very long, if at all.

Had this been the rumor that came out years ago and we could afford him; you know, before he went to Cincy and enrolled in a nursing home in the area, I'd be jumping all over it.

A Chipper-Teixeira-Griffey-Francoeur-McCann combo through the middle of the order would be difficult to pitch to, especially given the fact that Kelly and Yunel would likely be in front of it and Diaz behind it. However, that leaves our defense with no center fielder and will leave us shuffling our lineup to replace a #3 or 5 hitter, or perhaps both, by June.

I saw on TV that groin injury he had at the end of last season. Not fun.

Grif should head off to the American League and DH.

I'm assuming Terrence Moore brought this rumor up again for the umpteenth million time?

Well yeah, but at least he can't even let his racism make him think Willie Harris is good. At least not yet...

How much do you want to bet that it's an inevitability? ;)

yeah griffey should be our CF one problem tho... its 2008, not 2001... im still calling it CoCo will be our CF IF we trade for one. I dunno who said it here but David Dejesus is a nice option too.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the day that Willie is non-tendered and allowed to walk versus being offered arbitration.

I dunno who said it here but David Dejesus is a nice option too. That would be me... :)

I'm okay with Griffey being in CF in Atlanta... if he's manning a camera. I sure as hell don't want him playing for the Braves.

Considering that the Reds didn't want him playing CF this year, why would any team want him playing CF next year?

We don't need a right fielder, so we don't need Griffey.

This is the best post that should sum up this thread right here. Nice job Hobbes.

Bad Idea, and one that won't happen. Griffey is now a playing RF for a reason. He has shown time and time again that he cant hold up for the long haul of 162 game season. I love him as much as the next guy but he is not what we need right now. I do consider him one of the games all-time greats considering the path that he was on before his Cincy days. Love'em but no thanks.
