http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3088062 A month after the Padres' season came to a stunning end, they got another shock Wednesday when Cameron, their Gold Glove center fielder, was suspended for the first 25 games of next season after testing positive a second time for a banned stimulant.

Cameron filed for free agency a few hours later. The suspension certainly won't help his market value in a year when All-Star center fielders Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter and Aaron Rowand also are on the market.

Cameron beat the commissioner's office to the announcement, revealing the suspension during an interview on AM 1090, the Padres' flagship radio station.

"The one thing I wanted to make sure was explained is, no steroids," Cameron told the station. "I never took nothing like that before in my life. That would be 50 games, and that would affect me a whole lot more."Maybe this will get you guys that think Cameron would be a good idea to back off. Thank you for taking some uppers or whatever you took Mike.

Edit: So, I see that I'm late on this and it was mentioned in another thread. Oops.

But now theres a whole Cameron thread devoted to making fun of him......yeah hes going to lose a lot of money he could have made this offseason due to this.....

No he wont be a Brave....which I realize is a good thing!

And the reason I said he won't be a Brave has now been revealed. I know the substance he used and knew that he failed his test weeks ago. That's why I kept saying he would in no way be in Atlanta.

Thank Goodness, Andruw's bad last season stat line is a good Mike Cameron stat line

And before anyone mentions it, a Mike Cameron line is a good Corey Patterson line. :D

I had exactly the same thought when I heard this story - now the Braves won't make the dumb move of signing Cameron . He has all the same faults as Andruw .

But without the other-worldly defensive capabilities, and the potential to hit 40+ homers and carry the team offensively for stretches of time.

To be fair, he also doesn't have the $17M or so a year salary - and Andruw no longer has the otherworldy defensive capabilities.
