Atlanta Braves ace John Smoltz will be awarded the 2007 Branch Rickey Award for humanitarian service in November.
The award, created by the Denver Rotary Club in 1991, honors individuals in baseball who contribute to their communities and are strong role models for young people.I'd say that Smoltz and Hudson's name could be thrown into a hat and drawn at random for any awards like this. Always good to see that there are good people left in professional sports. You hear so much about the Mike Vick's and not enough about the John Smoltz's and Craig Biggio's of the world.
