Braves Dominate Nationals To Earn Sweep
By: Josh McCarroll (http://www.braves-nation.com/forums/member.php?u=1) | Braves-Nation.com

Just days after scoring just one run over five games, the Braves offense erupted against the Nationals on Wednesday night. The Braves scored 13 runs en route to a shutout win over the Nationals to give the Braves just their third sweep of the year.

The Braves pounded out 22 hits, the most for the franchise since collecting 24 hits at Colorado in 1999.

Yunel Escobar lead the hit parade, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored. Edgar Renteria, Chipper Jones, Jeff Francoeur and Matt Diaz all collected three hits.

The series was just what was needed to wake up Atlanta's bats. Brian McCann was 0-for-14 during the five games prior to the series began. He responded by going 7-for-11 with two homers and six RBIs against the Nationals.

Entering the game struggling with runners in scoring position, Jones came to the plate four times with a runner on third and less than one out. He went 3-for-4 and drove in a run during each at bat.

Each Braves starter, including starting pitcher John Smoltz, recorded a hit in the offensive erruption.

Smoltz exited the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after hitting a single. With an eight run lead at the time, he was taken out to rest his shoulder that has been aching for the last few weeks. While in the game, Smoltz struck out seven batters and lowered his ERA to 2.98.

The Braves, seemingly back on track, will now head to Florida as the start of a road trip that will lead up to the All-Star Break. Chuck James will take the hill on Friday for the Braves. He will face off against Josh Johnson of the Marlins.

Not to be picky, but at the title you have "12-0" instead of "13-0" (like you have in the box score):)
