Braves place Chipper on 15-day DL (http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060914&content_id=1663359&vkey=news_atl&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl)
After Thursday night's 4-1 win over the Phillies, Braves general manager John Schuerholz announced that the club was placing Jones on the disabled list for the third time this season. To explain the odd move with the rosters already expanded, Schuerholz explained this was simply made to exercise an insurance clause.
"He's not going to be able to play for four or five more days," Schuerholz said. "So we've disabled him. The insurance we have on him as a result of the disabled placement will become active."
Jones, who has been out since Sept. 3 with a strained left oblique, will be eligible for activation on Tuesday. If he's healthy enough, he'll be given the clearance to play.
Schuerholz wouldn't indicate the specifics of the insurance policy or how much the team might recoup from Jones' $11 million salary.
"I don't know exactly what the elements of the policy are," Schuerholz said. "But it will be active with him being on the disabled list."
