Braves Fall To Fish, Lose Series

The Braves and Marlins were playing their fourth game in less than two days, and the Braves lineup showed some lingering effects. Already without Chipper Jones due to injury, the Braves were also without starting shortstop Edgar Renteria and Brian McCann in the finale of the series. Renteria did later appear as a pinch hitter.
The Marlins got the early lead as Kyle Davies, once again, struggled in the first inning. After Davies gave up consecutive hits to start the game, Josh Willingham doubled to the left field gap to score Alfredo Amezaga and Dan Uggla for the first two runs of the game.
The third inning was the deciding inning in the game, however it shouldn't have happened. Davies allowed a leadoff double to Uggla, but then got Hanley Ramirez to pop up. Uggla later stole third base during Josh Willingham's at bat. Willingham drew a walk on a full count pitch that should have been a strike out. Uggla later scored on a sacrifice fly that should have been the final out of the inning and Willingham scored on a homerun by Aaron Boone.
The three runs that shouldn't have scored was the eventual margin of victory as the Braves rallied to score four runs later in the game.
In the fifth inning, Pete Orr and Kelly Johnson both drew walks to start the inning. Jeff Francoeur hit a double to the right center field gap to score both runners and cut the lead to 5-2.
Chad Paronto entered the game in the eighth inning and put the Braves offense back under the eight ball, as he allowed the Marlins to get the two runs back onto their lead. Paronto allowed two runs on three hits and left the Braves looking back up at a five run deficit.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Braves loaded the bases with only one out. After Renteria flied out, Kelly Johnson drove in Matt Diaz and Jarrod Saltalamacchia with a base hit to center field. Yunel Escobar followed with a single to load the bases, but the runners were left stranded as Jeff Francoeur grounded out to end the inning.
The Braves left twelve men on base throughout the game. They had eleven hits, but couldn't find a way to get the big hit to open up an inning.
The Braves will try to avenge their second lost series to the Marlins by bringing the Cubs in for a four game set. Chuck James will take on Rich Hill on Thursday for the first game of the series at 7:35.
