Prior to Sunday's game, the Braves sent middle infielder Martin Prado to Triple-A Richmond to make room for Lance Cormier to come off the disabled list.
Cormier didn't do much to earn his spot on Sunday, however. Showing a bit of rust on his breaking ball, Cormier allowed eight runs on nine hits, three of which were homeruns, and lasted just four innings.
Cormier allowed a grand slam homerun to former Brave Mark DeRosa with two out in the first inning. He then allowed solo homeruns to Alfonso Soriano and Derrek Lee in the second and third innings. After a scoreless fourth inning, Cormier started the fifth inning but couldn't record an out before having to leave the game.
After giving up a leadoff triple to Soriano to start the inning, Felix Pie ripped a double down the right field line to drive in Soriano and force Cormier's exit. Pie later scored on a single by Jacque Jones.
Oscar Villarreal followed Cormier by allowing a run in his inning of work. Chad Paronto and Macay McBride each threw scoreless innings for the Braves before Peter Moylan allowed the Cubs tenth run in the eighth inning.
The Braves scored their lone run in the seventh inning. Jeff Francoeur reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a base hit by Brian McCann. He scored on a single by Matt Diaz one batter later.
The biggest news of the day came when Jarrod Saltalamacchia took over at first base in the seventh inning. He had two chances to make a play in his two innings.
Saltalamacchia knocked down a ground ball and recorded an out on Mark DeRosa in his first chance. He had trouble securring the ball after knocking it down, but stayed with the ball and made the play. His second chance came on a diving stop on a ground ball by Angel Pagan. He followed up the great play with a bad one, however, as his throw to second base went into left field.
The Braves won the first two games of the series before dropping the finale 10-1. The club has won two consecutive series and will now head home for a four game series against the Marlins. Tim Hudson will face off against Wes Obermueller in the series opener at Turner Field on Monday night.
