Perez Continues Dominance Over Braves To Even Series

Oliver Perez has something about him that makes him become great when he's facing the Braves. Going back to the days he was in Pittsburgh, he has seemed to have a sense of invisibility when he takes the hill against the Braves. For the longest time, the Braves were the only team he had success against, at least now he's turning in good performances while facing other teams.
With Wednesday night's win, Perez now has five wins, three coming this year, and a 2.87 career ERA in nine starts versus the Braves.
The Mets started the scoring in the third inning via an error from second baseman Martin Pardo. Chuck James allowed a one out walk and single to Jose Reyes and Shawn Green to get the mini rally started. During Carlos Beltran's at bat, Reyes and Green attempted to steal. Jarrod Saltalamacchia chose to throw down to second base in attempt to get Green out, but Prado was late to the bag allowing both runners to be safe and allowed Reyes to score. Had Prado caught the ball, Green would have been out at second base and the ensuing strike out of Beltran would have ended the inning without a run scoring.
After the Braves failed to convert on a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the third, the Mets pushed the lead to 2-0 in the fourth. Paul Lo Duca, Carlos Delgado and Damion Easley started the inning with singles to load the bases. Lo Duca scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Carlos Gomez.
The Mets added their third and final run in the fifth inning on a homerun by David Wright.
The Braves had scoring opportunities throughout the game but failed to convert on any of them. They left eight runners on base, seemingly all in bunches. The Braves left two runners on in the first inning, three in the third inning, and one each in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings. They left runners in scoring position in the first, third and fifth innings.
The loss drops the Braves 2 1/2 games behind the Mets in the National League East standings headed into Thursday night's game. The rubber game of the series will match John Smoltz versus longtime friend and former Brave Tom Glavine for the third time this year. The Braves have won the previous two games
