View Full Version : Braves and Mets Trade?

I have seen on some websites including mlbtraderumors and heard on a few national radio shows that there is a possiblity, not a high one right now that the Braves and Muts would exchange top prospects. The Braves would trade Jarrod Saltalamachia to the Mets in exchange for Muts outfielder Lastings Millidge.

This deal would make since for both team. The Muts need a Catcher of the future while McCann is the Braves. In the Muts case it is easier to replace an outfielder then it is to find a catcher. In the Braves case they don't have anyone locked in left field, if they are satisfield with Thorman at 1B there is no place for Salty and maybe the most important if the Braves lose Andruw Jones in the offseason there is no clear successor. So Salty would be the Muts catcher of the future and Millidge could play left field right now in ATL and could fill the hole if AJ were to leave after the season.

I don't think this deal would happen, I just want to see what people think of the possibility of just trading with the Muts in the first place?

No way in hell would Schuerholz make a deal with the devil. This is not going to happen.

I don't think the Braves would trade one of their top prospects to the Mets. I guess I should say that I HOPE they wouldn't do that. I would hate to see Salty doing anything to beat Atlanta. I would assume management would not want to see that either

a. This will never happen b. I would never do this c. I'd rather have Thorman in LF than Milledge d. Milledge is not the type of player the braves go after very often

This all stems from MLB Trade Rumors. Forget it.

If Salty is traded, there's no way it is to the Mets. He wouldn't trade Langerhans to the Nationals, why would he trade Salty to the Mets?

I like Salty's upside over Milledge... they'd have to include something else in this deal. I'd like to say a pitcher, but the Mets don't have any pitchers to give. I'd do it if John Maine were included but that isn't going to fly.

Doubt it happens.

I think Francoeur will move into center field for next year. We'd then be able to move somebody to the outfield/sign somebody. Something like Thorman playing in left field, sign a right fielder, and then let Salty play first.

If we were to make a deal with the Mutts, I would want it to include Gomez. I've seen video, and I've heard from Mets fans that he is the real deal.

First off, I'm going to say I wouldn't want Milledge. I'd try for Fernando Martinez or Carlos Gomez instead. As far as pitching, Pelfrey and Humber are going to be absolute studs. I'd take them right now over any pitcher we have in our system.

I think Francoeur will move into center field for next year.No. Please, no. Francoeur cannot play center field. We do have other internal options for that though. [give me Lillibridge]

There's also a kid named Brandon Jones that has a good chance to be our LF next year.

We have a few options with Salty.

We either...
commit to him and have him learn how to play either first base or left field, playing Thorman in the other one.
decommit to Thorman and play Salty at 1B, trade Thorman and play Jones in LF.
trade Salty for other things (CF, pitching, etc.) while playing Jones in LF and Thorman at 1B.That's pretty much where it stands, but is no way Francoeur moving out of RF on a full-time basis. He may play an inning or two there, but he is not a center fielder for the Braves.

he really means: I read this on MLB trade rumors and wanted to talk about it without getting yelled at for bringing up ridiculous garbage from a completely ridiculous website so I'm going to pretend I heard it on a radio show so no one can actually verify it...

yea this is a dumb trade. but the Braves should go ahead and move Salty to 1b or something since McCann is our guy now. we dont even need lastings now, or LF is solid

Aye. Take the time to read what I said -- I never said that they didn't have good pitchers that we would like to have... they just aren't in a position to give up any pitching.

I also think it's a ridiculous statement to say there is no chance Francoeur will move out of right field. It's surely a possibility this offseason. I think we'd both agree that we'd rather Francoeur in right field, he may not be the best option. But it may be inevitable. And to say that Lillibridge would be a better option in center field, is, uhh, unfounded. Down the line? Maybe. Surely not next year. I can say, without a doubt, for sure.

If Francoeur is our center fielder next year we will be one of the worst defensive teams in baseball. Francoeur is not a center fielder, never will be in the major leagues.

He lacks acceleration needed to go from gap to gap and gets some of the worst jumps on balls that you may ever see.

FalconPride

Teams in MLB rarely ever trade prospects for prospects.

Teams in fake OOTP or Baseball Mogul leagues can't stop trading prospects for prospects.

Wonder what the difference is...

I think it has about a 2% of happening, I was just suprised that there would even be talk about a trade between these two teams, but Millidge could be an eventual all-star CF.

Yep. I think many folks confuse a strong arm with a good defender. Francoeur is a average defender at best in RF and would be a horrible center fielder. People get blinded by that arm.

I got to see Millidge a fair amount in Norfolk with the Tides last year, and while he's good I don't think that I'd want him on the Braves.

Honestly. I don't want to see him in center next year, but it will probably be thought about. We probably won't have the money to pay for a good defender in center field. We may be forced to go with an average one, and Francoeur could end up being a possibility.

No, this isn't such a sign. Not only is it virtually impossible for the Braves to keep Andruw, at the very least there is no way JS could count on signing a free agent with such confidence as to deal away his intended replacement.

No, all this means is that JS feels more confident in our minor league replacement options than he does about Langerhans.

I too was taken back at first when you mentioned Willie Harris, but I quickly realized what you meant, and it is perfectly relevant to this discussion. He was simply saying that he believes that JS dealing Langy has more to do with JS having confidence in Willie's ability to replace Langy this year (i.e. as a 4th outfielder and pinch hitter), and less to do with AJ's replacement next year (if anything). And I happen to agree with ya on that one.

i know this is off topic but i would like us to go after ichro if he is a free agent. Andruw needs to start shaping up tho because if he continues at the rate hes hitting no one will give him 20+ Million.

Andruw has stated time and time again that he won't accept a trade during the season.

But mayhaps if he continues to take a Brady-Quinn-like free fall in terms of his value with his putrid performance so far, then he would eventually be inclined to accept a trade to a warm-weather team if they give him a tempting contract? I'm looking at you with a lustful eye on your stockpile of young pitching, Anaheim!

McCarroll21
05-07-2007, 03:22 PM
Why would a team, like Anaheim, give up talent for Andruw Jones at this point? They know they'd have to pay him money to get him to accept a trade. Why not keep their talent and sign him in the off-season.

Kind of like the Giles thing this winter. Everyone knew we weren't going to tender him a contract, so why would a team like San Diego offer talent for him instead of waiting for two more weeks to get him as a FA.

I don't see us getting a big free agent this offseason, Hudson and Smoltz's salaries get a jump of like 13 million combined so it's basically like we're not losing Andruw

I wouldn't expect that he could or he would be playing it in the minors. He was playing RF, then switched to LF this year.

I think he switched to LF because he'll be our LF at some point this season, but he never played CF in the minors. His arm is supposedly better suited for LF too.

He's been described as a Devon White type of runner without as much speed, trying to judge how smooth he is.

ETA: Late June/Early July 2007 in LF.

A couple things:

1. They might be able to get him a little cheaper by virtue of his poor performance thus far (rather than waiting for him to possibly put together some good numbers by year's end).

2. They might also be able to get him a lot cheaper now because they wouldn't be bidding against other teams on the open market (see e.g. Soriano, Alfonso; Lee, Carlos)

3. Marcus Giles is no Andruw Jones.

McCarroll21

Why do you say that? Jeff was a very good CF in the minors, and could win some GG in CF if he played there. With his arm,and his speed,if Druw leaves,it will be Francouer in C,probley Jones in RF and Thor in left,if the move Salty to 1st. I would feel just fine with Jeff in C. But this is a mute pointe sence Druw will stay. New ownership will see to it because this team is good, and a championship could be had with the right players. Liberty spend on their Hockey team,I think they will do the same for the Braves.

McCarroll21
05-14-2007, 08:33 PM
Wow. Spelling much?

Francoeur just doesn't get a good enough read off the bat for me to feel comfortable with him in CF. I think if Bobby and JS really thought he could fill in at CF when needed, Langerhans would have been traded long ago.

And Andruw isn't staying, just get over it already. New ownership isn't going to do anything to keep him here, they're only interested in making money and AOL-TW showed that you can do that without pumping money into the team.

They've already given their OK to sign Mccann and Smoltz(under the table) I also think they are talking to Druw even now, just like they were Smoltz. JS would have to have their OK for the deals he just made. Liberty will be the owners of the Braves on Wed,or just a few days after. They like winning, unlike AOL/TW. Their Hockey team in Col. has a pretty good payroll, and is usually given what it needs to succeed. I think they will losen the purse strings some. The Braves are a very good team, and could win it all with the right players, and Liberty knows that. That don't have to come in and rebuild to have a chance to win it all. The team is already well put togeather. All it needs is a good #5 pitcher, maybe a LFder.Everything else is there. 95 to 100 Mill would be nothing to these people.10/15 more a yr is nothing. As for my spelling, forgive me,I didn't mean to do it.
