Braves sign LHP Colyer

Braves signed LHP Steve Colyer to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an out clause that lets him become a free agent if he's not in the majors on June 15. Colyer, 27, finished with a 5.71 ERA and a 52/48 K/BB ratio in 58 1/3 innings for Triple-A Colorado Springs.

I think it's a good signing. We tried to trade for him during the season for a reason. Our scouts have seen something in him, much like Jaret Wright before. No one liked that signing, but when he was our best pitcher the next year everyone started to like it. I have a feeling we'll catch lightning in a bottle here.

In all fairness Coyler hasn't started a game 7 in the WS. He might be a surprise next year but I'm putting the odds of Hampton winning 20 games over those of Coyler being say, the Braves best reliever behind Wickman.
