Shortly before the game on Wednesday, the Braves made the call to bring up super prospect Jarrod Saltalamacchia. With the Braves down two catchers with battle wounds from the previous night, it was time for Salty to make the jump. Salty made the jump from Double-A Mississippi, on his 22nd birthday, no less.

The Braves started the scoring in the first inning. Edgar Renteria hit a one out double and moved to third on a wild pitch in the next at bat. After a walk to Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones grounded into a force out, but beat the return throw to prevent the double play and drive in a run.

Saltalamacchia stole the show in the second inning. He ended the top of the second by throwing out Jayson Werth trying to steal second base. In his first at bat in the bottom of the second, Salty drilled a ball to straight away center field that just missed leaving the yard.

The Braves added two more runs in the third inning. Kelly Johnson started the inning, followed by a bunt single from Renteria. Chipper Jones extended his hit streak to twelve games with a double to drive in two.

Chuck James gave up three runs in the sixth inning before recording an out. Ryan Howard hit a three run homer to deep center to tie the game at 3-3.

The Braves came right back and scored in the bottom of the sixth for the eventual winning run. Scott Thorman started the inning with a single. Jeff Francoeur followed with an infield single and Saltalamacchia was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a pitching change, Willie Harris singled sharply to right field to drive in Scott Thorman to give the Braves a 4-3 lead.

Mike Gonzalez pitched the eighth inning for the Braves. He retired the side in order, including strikeouts of both Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.

Rafael Soriano pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save in the absence of Bob Wickman. Soriano allowed a hit in his inning of work.

Saltalamacchia reached base twice in his Major League debut. He walked and was hit by a pitch, so he is still awaiting his first Major League hit.

Willie Harris went 2-for-3, picking up his third hit since joining the Braves just a day prior. The three hits are the same amount that Ryan Langerhans had collected before being traded.

The Braves will play the Dodgers on Friday night at 7:35. John Smoltz will be facing off against Brett Tomko.
