With Salty coming up and making his name the longest in history, Cold Pizza's 1st and 10 segmant had them argue about what the greatest name ever for a Baseball player is or was. What is your favorite baseball name?

active players: Coco Crisp
retired players: Babe Ruth

I saw Wonderul Terrific Monds III play for the Durham Bulls back when they were are A team and he was the CF while Andruw played RF. But that is a great name.

The Braves had plenty of great names from back in the Days of Despair. There was Asselstine (who was going to be a terrific player until he mangled his knee on the mesh outfield fence at A-FCS), Biff Pocoroba (of course), Sugar Bear Blanks, Paul Casanova, and my personal favorites:

A pitcher named Wenty Ford and The Pride Of The Braves himself, outfielder Gary Cooper.

I loved Biff Pocoroba, and I also always liked Pepe Frias. I still remember the PA announcer announcing "Pepe...Freeee-aas!"

Paul Assenmacher was a cool name too.

The distinctive voice of Marshall Mann on the PA is probably my single most indelible memory of going to Braves games as a kid. You could hear him out in the parking lot as soon as you got out of the car and it got you so fired up.

Can I ask a favor? This was some good fodder for an off day, but after the game tonight can this thread die? It has the makings of spam written all over it.

Some have some good names, but it seems that others are just posting a name to be able to post.

How about the original player to be named later---Jose Uribe. He was born Jose Gonzalez. But he changed it because he said there were too may Gonzalezes in baseball.

Early Wynn comes in 2nd.

I think I said both of those passing some Mexican food last night.

Mine isn't funny or a cock/ball joke, but it's still fun to say: Edgar Renteria. It just sorta rolls off the tongue and unlike many of the others, he's a pretty decent ballplayer to boot.

If I ever have a male child, I'm making a strong push for that to take the place of his first and middle names.

I like Renteria's name as well. I still always modify that song Santeria by Sublime when I think of Edgar's name.

I like Edgar Renteria
'cause he likes to play baseball

For some unknown reason I've been singing that little lyric since he was playing in Florida.
