According to Jayson Stark on ESPN Radio, the Braves have officially filed a missing persons report on Willie Aybar. Apparently over the last week, he has gone completely MIA..

I really hope he's alright. He needs to get in touch with someone and find some help before this gets even worse.

Is there something that the Braves can do contract-wise? I mean, there's no reason they should be paying this guy (*yes, I know he's suspended without pay right now*) for services NOT rendered...

McCarroll21
04-30-2007, 04:57 PM
They've done all they can do. Suspend him without pay. I would assume this will remain in tact until he either a) shows up or b) gives a timetable for his return.

The strangest part of all of this is that not even his brother Erick has been able to reach him. Same for the mother of family friend Vladimir Guerrero.

It's strange. I hope nothing is more serious than what we already know, but the way things are adding up, it's not looking good. :(

If you by some miracle read this, Willy ...You've got to FIGHT IT!! Drugs and alcohol are temporary solutions for a permanent problem. Don't let your disease (addiction) drag you down. The path you are on leads to three ends ... Jails, Institutions, and Death. Nobody wants to come to those ends.

GO TO AA or NA .. go to CHURCH ... if that's not for you .. go see a councilor!

-------------

I hope Willy is okay. He will be in my prayers.

BTW ... I'm still a part of the Willy Aybar fan club.

What do you mean? How can it not be serious? He walked out on the Braves and no one, including his brother and mother have been able to reach him anywhere. He has skipped out on a few meetings, one with Bobby Cox and others with MLB officials.

His agent has released information that he is dealing with a substance abuse problem. Even if people knew where he was, that's serious. Coupled with the fact that no one knows where he is makes it even more serious.

And as far as the Abyar Fan Club... It's come to a stall, but he's got my full support. I'm pulling for him, but it's taken on a different role. Gone are the days that I lobby for more playing time, just let us know you're alive and okay. Something... ANYTHING!

All i have to ask is why why we did not do a Background check on him before we made this trade?

Im sure his background check would have told us he was a druggy who would disappear....Im sure he recently got into this stuff and something bad probably happened....as a person who has been up close and personal with drugs and alcohol problems with loved ones....its a serious matter and some bad people come looking for you if money or drugs go missing

Im sure hell be fine....but a hi im ok would be nice to reassure eveyone

well Rocker wasn't treated the same because of his comments in SI....also factor in the fact that Aaron wanted Rocker gone didn't help his case either...I know Aaron has no say on what JS does, but being as big a part of the Braves franchise as he is I'm sure JS listened to what he had to say on his feelings towards Rocker...

KB 34
05-16-2007, 01:46 PM
The point I wanted to make by bringing up Rocker is the need to realize that this is a human being we're talking about here, not an alien from a parallel universe. Sure he made terrible choices. Sure he made a decision that pretty much voids his contract. Even with this so, his life is more important than his baseball career and everyone around baseball should root for him to get his life in order and resume a promising career regardless of his past mistakes. I feel that Rocker never got this support and I fear that once details about what Aybar has gone through also come out the same might happen to him.
