Depends. If we trade Andruw we'd need someone to help take the place of that bat in the lineup. I would be against it right now, but who knows what will unfold this winter.

I'd rather us get him than phillies

He's old-ish, fragile-ish, over priced-ish, and worse in the postseason than A-Rod... He wasn't any better this october than he was when he was with the braves, and I don't want that...

Philly newspapers aren't exactly known for their expert opinions.

Philly newspapers are pretty much like Philly fans. Loud, misinformed, and loud.

only problem is we wouldn't have a leadoff hitter and there aren't that many leadoff hitting 2b on the market.

No way this happens. I'd take Diaz/Langerhans over Washedfield anyday

You know, I've thought about this some. Our offense ranked, what? Second in the league? Something around there. I know we're probably going to lose Giles and replace him at the top of the order with someone, but can we not look at what we need to look at here JS?

I commend you for doing your part in shoring up the back end of the bullpen this year, but adding Sheffield isn't going to make us better. Get us a pitcher, and then get another one ... and it wouldn't hurt to get another one after that too.

Exactly. The offense will be fine. Hell, you can trade Andruw and Giles and this offense will still be fine, great if Chipper can somehow stay healthy.

This team needs pitching and plenty of it. Wasting resources in people like Sheff doesn't get us there.

And what is lost in all of this, is the Philly newspapers aren't really a good source of information. From the articles I've read from Philly based newspapers about sports, I've come to realize that they're idiots, much like their fans. Passionate, but idiots.

JS probably isn't even thinking about Sheffield unless he just walks in and says I'll play LF for $5M. They're probably piecing it together themselves because of the past connection and knowing we're looking for someone to play LF. Hello world, our LF better be able to play defense and leadoff or he won't be brought in.

Who here thinks Aybar would be able to handle the leadoff position full time?

I'm probably the biggest Aybar fan on this message board, if not the biggest I'm 1A. If Aybar is playing full-time, we need to bat him 8th and acquire a leadoff man via LF. I'm not going to say he COULDN'T do it, but it's not the way I would want to go.

yanks picked up his 13M option, my guess in an effort to trade him

he is enfuriated because he wants a new three year deal and doesnt want to play first

Not sure who is going to take on the $13M to get him. The Yankees would have to throw in a good chunk of money because if you're going to pay a corner OF that much money for a year, you might as well go hard after Soriano or Lee for 5 or 6 years.
