just thought of this, would it be good strategy to give an opposing pitcher decent pitches to hit, i.e. make them run? Generally, after a pitcher has to run the bases, they pitch worse in the next inning/rest of the game. I dunno, just something I was thinking of.

i really doubt this would work out in the long run, this would give them at least one guy on base and the top of the order coming up

depends on who you're pitching to.....like Chuck James, hell yes give him something to hit.
but (apparently) it doesn't work with Jorge Sosa.

What Chief said. I would always throw right at a pitcher. No need in wasting pitches to get an out, unless that pitcher is Zambrano, Hampton or some of the other better hitting pitchers.
I always view pitchers as a time to work on that curve ball or slider. Working in those secondary pitches, getting a feel for them. Some pitchers you cant do that with, of course.

If they're pitching really really good, throw at their elbows or knees.
J/k.
I think Gary has got it right ... at least when there is nobody on base. Bunting situation ... give em something they can make contact with but always low or on the upper inside quarter. In crucial situations, its of course neccesary to try and overpower them though. Just throw your best pitch at them and see if they can hit it. Otherwise, work on your stuff.
