This article is going to be a little different. It's not really an article, but more an open thread.

With the season just days away, I want everyone to weigh in on their predictions.

I'll start it off, follow my format when adding your own. We'll pull this back up a few times during the season and see where everyone stands. We'll probably run a mid-season version too.

I really want to put the Braves as the World Series winners but the Dodgers seem poised to be really good this year and I think they're the best team in the NL, also I have the Phillies winning the division because I like their rotation more than ours, it's pretty unknown how everyone but Smoltz will pitch but the Phillies have some solid starters, an explosive offense, and a decent bullpen. The NL Central is really hard to predict! The Blue Jays are kind of a darkhorse pick for me, the Red Sox have an abysmal bullpen save for Papelbon and their rotation has alot of questions

Can't believe how many people have jumped on the Brewers bandwagon. They will contend this season, but are still a year away. If they are able to keep this team together for another season, there is no way they don't win the central next season.

I'll post my predictions later today, I've got some other stuff I'm working on right now.

McCarroll21
03-30-2007, 03:42 PM
Just to say this, I picked the Brewers last year and feel like they could have won it if they were healthy. Since Weeks came up a few years ago, and Fielder was doing his thing, I've told a lot of my friends that the Brewers were the team to fear.

grafe
03-30-2007, 03:53 PM
I picked the Brewers because I honestly have no idea what's gonna happen in that division but the Brewers probably do have the best shot

lmartin6
03-30-2007, 04:38 PM
Some of these "darkhorse" predictions are way off. How can Ryan Howard (defending MVP), Vlad (former MVP), Roy Halladay (recent CY winner and perennial contender) be "darkhorses"? Aren't they pretty much front-runners?

McCarroll21
03-30-2007, 05:05 PM
True enough. I'm thinking my darkhorses are darkhorses, not second in line.

After almost an entire day of working on it, here are my predictions. If you recall how I set up my NL East predictions a while back, I did the same thing with these. Just a response to Mac's original post:

I think its mostly good, but
1. Travis Hafner has to be legitimately considered in any AL MVP debate and
2. the NL Central is god awful. No way the WC comes out of there.

McCarroll21
04-01-2007, 07:19 PM
My reasoning for the WC coming out of the NL Central is because I think there will be two teams emerge from the pack and take advantage of playing the other teams 18 times.

As far as Hafner, he is a legitimate contender, but he's not a darkhorse candidate because of that.

Imartin6,

you make an excellent point in pointing out that many picks (mine included) aren't "true" darkhorses. We probably shouldn't refer to anyone that may win an MVP trophy as a darkhorse. History shows that MVP candidates are rarely unexpected. Check out the MVP candidates for the NL since 1980. Other than Ryan Howard last year and Kevin Mitchell in 1989, you won't find an MVP that wasn't in the top 5 to 10 players picked in the pre-season.

I can only speak for myself, but my darkhorses were basically who I thought would be runners up.

Now if I had picked Ryan Langerhans as a darkhorse...that would have been a truly ballsey (is that a word??) pick!!

Lets play ball!!

It's mid-season, little check up
-I fucked up the NL east
-NL central I picked the cards ahead of the brewers, almost there
-Got the top 3 in the NL west right
-Got the NL wildcard right
-Mixed the jays and yanks in the AL east, had the Rox though
-Got the AL central perfect baby
-screwed up the AL west
-didn't got the AL wildcard
-totally wrong in the individual trophies

Not too bad for the division races, hopefully the Braves and A's will turn it around so I get 5/6 right (cards have no chance)
