White Sox slurp on promotion, will start games at 7:11 (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2621231)
The White Sox will start weeknight home games at 7:11 p.m. as part of a sponsorship deal with the 7-Eleven convenience store chain.
White Sox spokesman Scott Reifert would not disclose the value of the three-year deal with the Dallas company Wednesday but said the revenue probably will be reinvested in the team or ballpark.
The new start time hardly represents a significant change since many weeknight games at U.S. Cellular Field already start at 7:07 p.m.
Umm, they've already renamed one of the historical baseball park names from Comiskey to U.S. Cellular, now starting games at 7:11 for a little deeper pockets? Will this phase of sponsorship getting so deeply involved in sports ever end?

QFE!
From a marketing standpoint, I hope 7-11 didn't pay very much for that. I don't think it's going to put the idea in anyone's head "hey, why don't we go to 7-11!" A better promotion would have been free-slurpee's for those in attendance if a player hits a homerun during such and such inning or something along those lines...something that's going to guarantee that you get people in the store.

This is nothing compared to what we'll probably see in the future. I remember a Peter Gammons quote on this subject wayyyyy back in 97 or 98. He said basically the same thing I did .. ending with "How much money would a company like McDonalds pay to have their logo under the Braves Tomahawk?"
It'll happen unless we get a real Baseball purist in control of this sort of thing.
One of the first, Riverfront Stadium .. was renamed to Cinergy Field ... named after Cincy's power company... then Joe Robbie Stadium was renamed "Pro Player Stadium" ... which is a total discredit to the man who brought professional sports to the city of Miami.
Then the ridiculous Spiderman 2 bases ...
As you can see, this is a touchy subject. I could rant all day... but I'll shut it for now.
Thank you drive through.

Just think that it could be worse. Has any of you ever watched a baseball game in Dominican Republic or Cuba ? It is like that
"And player xxx steps on plate. Buy your car plates at Auto dealers Cuba. And it's a swing and a miss (do not miss money bets with blablabla) and player yyy steals second ! Don't be a victim of stealing with erightig alarms." which is just ugly to listen to.

no wonder their hitters are so aggressive who would ever want to bat for more than 1-2 pitches
