Oh my goodness. wow. I'm just trying to make sense of what is going on here. Wow. That is incredibly sad. He leaves behind wife of 9 years and a 6 year old son. How terrible.

You have to wonder if it was suicide or something.Or a plane failure. Man, some people have such incredible outlook on life. Everything has to be the worst it can possibly be.

I hate it for Cory and his family. I hate it for the Phillies and Yankees who went to war with him everyday this season, and I hate it for baseball.

I don't know much else to say, RIP.

This is very sad news and I believe MLB should postponed tonights playoffs games. Thats just the correct thing to do, diffenetly since Lidle played for both the Mets and A's in the past.

RIP Cory

I saw that as it was breaking earlier this evening. Terrible news.

Early reports say he reported "fuel problems" very shortly after takeoff. I also heard there was thick/low cloudcover over the apple.

Sounds like he was losing altitude and/or became disoriented in the clouds ... and just happened to fly into manhattan.

Just a theory ... all in all, very sad news and a terrible day for baseball.

A few quotes from Tim Hudson on Cory Lidle.

ajc.com (http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/braves/stories/2006/10/11/1012lidlereact.html)"Cory was a great friend and teammate to me and anyone who played with him," Hudson said. "The first thing I thought of was his family. He has a son who is just a little older than my daughter, and our families were very close when we played together in Oakland." MLB.com (http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061011&content_id=1709406&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)"Cory was a true family man and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family," said Tim Hudson, the Braves pitcher who was a teammate of Lidle in Oakland. "A lot of us have lost a teammate, but they have lost a husband and father, and that's tragic."
Sportscenter had these quotes combined into one, but I couldn't find an article that had them combined. Appears that Huddy and Lidle were more than just teammates. It seems that Lidle was much more respected by his teammates than the world of baseball gave him credit for.
