You're forgetting about what a full season of Wickman, Boyer, James, and this version of McBride could mean.

I agree, i feel pretty good about our bulpen next year. all of those guys are good. imagine if we had wickman instead of reitsma in june, that couldve been at least 10 more wins that month.
i want to get one more ace in the staring rotation, damn i wish zito werent so expensive.

The thought of wickman for a full yr, a healthy boyer, an improved mcbride(thanks wickman), and a full yr of chuck james makes me like next yr

I'm not going to try to predict anything right now, but I'll give my thoughts on how I think it will shake out. This will probably be confusing, but oh well ...
I feel our team hinges on how Davies does over the winter. I hope he's playing winter ball somewhere. If all goes well, he'll open as our 5th starter and we will be able to trade Horacio and not look back. If he continues to struggle we'll be forced to keep Horacio and/or find another pitcher somewhere to use in the rotation.
Rotation will be:Smoltz
Hudson
Hampton
James
And the situation I described aboveI think our bullpen is pretty much set as ...Wickman
Boyer
McBride
Devine
Yates
and 2 of: Cormier, Paronto, Startup, VillarrealOur lineup will remain mostly in tact, excpet I think Giles will be traded with Aybar or Prado taking over at 2B. I think we'll make a trade for someone to lead off, which could change who I said will take over for Giles, but I'd look for it to be someone to plug into LF.
Renteria, Chipper, Andruw, McCann, Francoeur and LaRoche are basically locks to open the season batting 2-7. If we add a LF for leadoff, Aybar or Prado will hit 8th. If we add a 2B for leadoff, I'd look for Johnson/Langerhans to open the season in LF and bat 8th.
Thinking about what we have to work with now, we'll have the backup catcher, Pena or Pratt, on the bench. Joining him will be Diaz and whoever doesn't start between Aybar and Prado. We'll also have either Thorman or Ward on the bench, and whoever will be our backup SS (I'm hoping not Tony Pena). Look for Yunel Escobar to make a push in Spring Training for the starting 2B or a bench job because of his ability to play SS.
All of those can/will change depending on who we get via FA or trades, I'm thinking about who we have now with this in mind.

who needs another ace with a rotaton like:
Smoltz, John-3.86 15/11
James, Chuck-2.91 17/7
Hudson, Tim-3.69 14/9
Ramirez, Horacio-3.47 14/10
Davies, Kyle-4.82 8/12

who knows if all of those guys will be back, Horacio could get traded. i think davies may go to the bulpen, but will probably start. and dont get me wrong, i think chck james is awesome, but there is a thing called the sophomore slump. aalso anyone remember how jorge sosa had a good year in 05 and then sucked in 06. also anyone know what mike hampton will do?
dont count Kevin Barry, Phil Stockman, and Ken Ray out of the bulpen battle either

Hampton is supposedly in the best shape of his life. He's pitching in the instructional league in Florida just to get some innings in. I think he'll come back pitching like he did in Houston. If that's the case, there's our other ace.

i hope so. I remember he was pitching very well just before his injury, looking like the old Hampton. if he comes back pitching like that, then he is another ace

JS will make a deal either will free agency or via trade to add another starting pitcher, setup man, and possibly a leadoff hitter.
