Figured it would be good to have posted... but the list makes me sad. Very weak, basically Carlos Lee, Barry Zito, Gary Matthews Jr., and Maddux.

My thoughts too. The best the Mets can do is go out and sign Zito. I think his type of attitude (reported to have that surfer's mentality) will be eaten alive in NY.

ooh, good points. I never thought of it that way. At least we know we can still beat the nationals. :)

But no major free agents that the Mets lose

Except Glavine and the fact that El Duque and Pedro are breaking down.

The FA's who intrest me are Jeff Suppan, Dave Roberts, and Tom Glavine.

Edit: I'd also like to add Craig Counsell the gnome and Mark Derosa.

i'd take Suppan.

Dave Roberts would be nice too.

and Glavine won't be coming back here...i don't think so at least, unless he's signing a one-day contract so he can retire.

You can bet that StL is going to bring Suppan back. The only starter they have locked up past this year is Carpenter. They won't bring back Mulder, and the jury is still out on Weaver. They'll probably use Reyes and Wainwright in the rotation next year, as well, but they won't let Suppan get away easily.

I'd love have Craig Counsell. He could play 2B, leadoff, or be a solid replacement off the bench. We'll need that because whoever starts at 2B next year (Aybar or Prado) will move to 3B when Chipper gets hurt. Counsell also knows how to win and could play some SS to give Renteria a day off, thus not having to have Tony Pena on the roster next season.

He'd have to take a considerable paycut. He's coming off surgery and an AWFUL year.

The big Hurt?
The A's are already working on locking him up.

A's offer Thomas 2 years (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-athletics-thomas&prov=ap&type=lgns)

"They've offered two years, but we're still a long way away," Thomas told The Associated Press on Friday after the A's swept the Minnesota Twins to reach the AL championship series. "It's something where I want to be here. I'm also at the point in my career where I've got to do the right thing. I'm a free agent."

Wouldn't expect him to come to Atlanta anyway. Where would he play?

isnt this reason enough for him to have to take a paycut?

yes, but then you gotta convince the MLBPA.

I think he meant where would he play if he came here.

Nowhere. Unless you'd rather have an old fat DH with bad knees than the bambino reincarnate ... Adam Laroche :)

You're correct. What does he might sign with the Twins have to do with us? He's not coming to the NL, I don't even know why his name was thrown into this discussion. Sure he's a potential free agent, but not one for the Braves.
