Attention, please: Braves audition PA announcers (http://www.ajc.com/services/content/sports/braves/stories/2007/03/21/0322bravespa.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=21)
With all the jitters of rookies facing their first major league fastball, a string of golden-voiced baseball fans took the mike at Turner Field Wednesday in a pitch for their dream job: announcing for the Atlanta Braves. Culled from more than 100 audition tapes, the 13 finalists took turns booming the names off the Braves roster, putting a flair into "Francoeur" and a boom into "your Atlanta-a-a-ah B-r-r-a-a-a-v-es!" The winner, to be announced this week, will be paid to sit in a booth overlooking the first-base line, close enough to catch a foul ball if he's not providing the soundtrack to the Southern dynasty of Major League Baseball. Health problems forced previous announcer Bill Bowers to quit after 10 years behind the mike.
