I've never noticed this before last night and thought maybe it was just a coincidence, but he's doing it againg as I watch Sportscenter this morning. Last night, he wore a green tie and held a green highlighter in his hand, and this morning he's wearing a pink tie and holding a pink highlighter. Is there really any point in him holding a highlighter while he gives his "analysis" in the first place? I know he probably uses one while going through game notes and what-not, but it's kind of odd that he chooses to hold onto it while he talks, and especially that he makes sure it matches his attire.

This has been discussed multiple times on PTI when they have Phelps as a guest. Kornheiser particularly seems infatuated with it. It is intentional on Phelps part, and he's been doing it for at least a year or two.

i think he has been doing it for more than a year. but i think its really annoying and i don't really like digger phelps and this doesn't help very much

According to Wiki, Tony Kornheiser calls him "Tie-Lighter." Interesting tidbit- his daughter is married to MLB pitcher and Braves' Divisional foe, Jamie Moyer.

mmhmm, well...i'm very rarely home while PTI is on, and when I am it's not exactly at the top of our priority list to watch, so I guess I've just missed out on all that
