It's been posted in the gamethread, but I think it deserves it's own thread.

Pedro to miss eight months after rotator cuff surgery (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2608613)

Pedro Martinez is going to be out far longer than this postseason: The New York Mets' ace will miss a chunk of 2007, too -- because of an injured pitching shoulder.

Already ruled out of the playoffs because of a bad left leg, the three-time Cy Young Award winner will have right rotator cuff surgery next week and won't resume throwing off a mound until June, Mets general manager Omar Minaya said Saturday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

With all the injuries he's suffered through this season, and now the worst one still to come ... is this the end of Pedro Martinez as we know him? Can he possibly come back and be the same pitcher he once was?

I personally think he should just retire. He's been hampered with health issues throughout the year, and it just looks like it's all finally taking a toll on him. In the games that he has pitched, he has looked painfully average, so it kind of scares me to proclaim that losing Pedro actually hurts the Mets in this upcoming playoffs.

I just don't know if he's gonna have it in him anymore, but maybe he will. I guess we'll see when the time comes.

I hope he recovers well.
But ....
HAHAHA !!! This is the first of Omar's moves that bites back. This 53M$ contract turned from stealing to disaster. Next target : Beltran, when he will return to his sucky stats next year.

Seeing how milledge seems to be a selfish retard (see muts news on their mlb site), I don't see any team willing to take him

oh, I could see quite a few teams taking him, even if his first year was less than impressive.

There will be teams lined up to take him, he's talented. They'll take him and hope New York was the cause of his attitude problems.

it's just so unfortunate that Pedro is going to be missing an extended period of time...

Yeah, I'm with you on that one ... but I think if I try hard enough I may be able to put myself together and get over it.

Done.

At least he'll have more times to play with his tape balls like he did once this year in the dugout
