The Mets victory tonight ensures that our streak of 14 divisional titles has now come to an end. We all knew it was coming at some point soon, but it's now official.

Take a moment to reflect on how great the accomplishment is and go through some memories during this amazing streak.

Ahh the glory days of 1999 when we would go to Shea and dominate ... with chants of 'Larry' echoing throughout Queens.. and signs of 'Mr Mojo Risin" throughout the big blue urine receptical....

Then when the Mets came to town, signs of 'Mr. Mojo FALLIN' and Millwood for Cy Young ... Chipper for MVP ...

And lets not forget Kevin Millwood's one hitter in the 99 NLDS... then the very next day in houston.... the biggest moment in Walt Weiss's career... THE DIVE.

To help put this streak in perspective, think about the following:

When the streak began in 1991:
George H.W. Bush is president of the US.
The US and its allies launch an air attack on Iraq to being liberating Kuwait.
In a ground war that lasts just 100, the US easily defeat the Iraqi army in Kuwait.
The case against Oliver North is "terminated" with all Iran-Contra charges dropped.
The US Senate approves the nomination of Clarence Thomas, after investigating an allegation of sexual harassment.
A brush fire destroys over 3000 homes in Oakland, California.
Tim Berners-Lee introduces the web browser.
An amateur video captures the beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers.
Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is arrested after the remains of 11 men and boys are found in his Milwaukee, Wisconsin apartment.
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics officially ceases to exist.
Linus Torvalds releases the Linux kernel.
Sonic the Hedgehog is released for the Sega Genesis in North America.
Minnesota Twins win the World Series (Like we didn't already know that).
New York Giants win Superbowl XXV.
Pittsburgh Penguins win the Stanley Cup.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is the top grossing film.
Nirvana's Nevermind, led by the surprise hit single "Smells Like Teen Spirit", is the most popular album of the year.
"Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" by Bryan Adams spends the most time at the top of the US charts.
Britney Spears appears on Star Search.
Home Improvement premieres

From the start of the Braves streak in 1991 to when it ended in Sept. 12th, 2006:
Desert Storm under George Herbert Walker Bush had just finished before spring training and Saddam stays in power for 12 seasons of the run.
We are now in Iraq again with George W Bush that started in 2003 and has been under US rule for 2 seasons of the run.
The World Trace center in NYC is attacked twice and is completely destroyed by one of them during the run.
The Braves had won 3 divisons already when Kurt Cobain killed himself.
The Braves have also won 3 divisions when OJ is on trial for murder and is in the playoffs winning the World Series when he is found not guilty.
We have had 3 different presidents under 5 different presidental elections (Bush, Clinton, Bush) and had one impeached.
The Hubble was a year old when the streak began.
The USSR dissolved leaving the USA as the lone superpower in the world.
Two former presidents have died during the streak (Nixon (1994) and Reagan(2004)).
27 new countries have been formed throughout the world during the run.
Keith Olbermann had not yet joined Dan Patrick on ESPN to create the Big Show when the streak started. He joied ESPN in 1992 and left in 1997. He rejoined Dan Patrick on ESPN Radio last year though and still does the show to this day.
Michael Jordan retired twice from the NBA and won 6 championships, as well.
Brett Favre was an Atlanta Falcon when the streak began and most likely no one in Green Bay knew about him.
Three new franchises have been added to MLB.
Average price of gas was $1.64 in 91 and is $2.84 in 2006.
http://zfacts.com/metaPage/lib/zFacts-Gasoline-Price.gif
The Federal Building in Oklahoma City was blown up in 1995.
The USA hosted 2 Olympic games (Summer 1996, Winter 2002) and hosted one World Cup.
Lance Armstrong won the Tour De France 7 times and also retired from cycling.
Fox News was not even an idea for another 5 years (launched on October 7, 1996 and only available to 10 million households).
Tom Foley was the speaker of the house in 1991 and it is currently Dennis Hastert.

The streak was how long?
From and including: Wednesday, April 10, 1991
To and including: Tuesday, September 12, 2006

It is 5635 days from the start date to the end date, end date included. Or 15 years, 5 months, 3 days including the end date.

Alternative time units:
5635 days can be converted to one of these units:
486,864,000 seconds
8,114,400 minutes
135,240 hours
805 weeks

A year-by-year look at the Atlanta Braves' streak of 14 straight division titles...

2005
Using 18 rookies, including 12 making their big-league debut, the Braves pull out their 14th straight division title by two games over Philadelphia. Andruw Jones finishes second in MVP balloting with 51 HRs and 128 RBI. John Smoltz returns to the starting rotation. Bobby Cox wins another manager of the year award. The Braves lose in the first round of the playoffs for the fourth straight year, falling to Houston in 18-inning final game, the longest in postseason history.

Someone posted a link to a site on Braves.net a while back to a site full of multimedia stuff. I added it to my favorites, but have cleared my hard drive a few times since then, and have lost the link. Anyone remember that site?

Andy Marte, Pt. 2
Just made me cringe. I hope we find a spot for him somewhere on the diamond ... but we all know it won't be behind the plate. I've never seen him play so I don't know if he's athletic enough to play in LF or not, but we should try it out in ST. I know what will probably happen, but I don't want to think about that right now ...

He struggled mightly at Mississippi this season, so I would say he is still at least three years away from being at least productive at the ML level. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, look what it did for Betemit. He was in the minors for five years before he made his ML debut, and then it was another three seasons before he was even able to make an impact with Atlanta. It's going to take a lot of time for Salty to really be ready, so maybe there is hope for him to make the move elsewhere.

i remember early in the season we were talking about playing him at first...and now LaRoche seems to have come on as an everyday first baseman.

looks like we have some more trade bait.

It's going to take a lot of time for Salty to really be ready, so maybe there is hope for him to make the move elsewhere.Well, reports say he was concentrating more on defense early and then he got hurt. After coming back from his injury he started raking. I still think he's a full season, maybe two away from the show ... but his season in AA isn't as bad as his full season stats make it look. Later in the year he started to show he could hit at that level. I say, make him repeat AA in 2007 while switching him to either 3B or LF and see how he reacts. Then in 2008 we have a decision to make, and I don't think it will be especially hard if he proves he can play either of those positions.

looks like we have some more trade bait. It's funny how things change, but LaRoche has more than proven he deserves a full season of playing every day.
