A link to back such claims would be greatly appreciated. ;)
Can't say I blame them. Still would've liked to have seen him get some more at bats. Gwinnett Gregor to the rescue.

I still don't think he's healthy. Geb better hit, because we're losing a lot defensively.
I love how Jordan gets sent down, but Failcoeur goes right back in the starting lineup. I fucking hate this team. Bobby Cox needs to retire.

let this be a lesson to you kids: hack away, don't take walks, play below average defense but have a cannon arm and even YOU can play in the Major Leagues!

I don't think they didn't believe you, just wanted to see what else came of it. :)

I can't say I blame them either, but I don't think GEB is going to offer us anything that Schafer wouldn't. Hopefully he can go down there, work on some things and come right back in three days (isn't that the precedence?).

If Zoolander taught me one thing in life, its that if you are ridiculously good looking, the world bows down at your feet. According to the babes at the ballpark, the braves have one ridiculously good looking player, and its not Casey Kotchman.

This is what I hope. I think a fresh mindset will help Schafer. I doubt he'll be back up that soon (because he won't whine the whole time he's down, which is apparently the quick ticket home), but I hope it's not an extended stay. I think the only thing that will keep him down for too long would be poor performance in the minors. If he can't get it together in Gwinnett, that's when we really need to worry, but I bet he'll be fine.

I understand that he's struggled big time lately, but I don't like this move.
Like I've said before, the Braves HAD to know a guy with only a half season at AA would be in for some tough stretches if they started the year with him. If you weren't willing to keep him at eight and let him learn; why bring him up at all?
I for one saw some big positives in his game; I love that he didn't abandon his approach - despite his big struggles - you would rarely see him take bad swings or chase sliders in the dirt.
Besides the fact that Blanco does nothing for this team's lack of offense and we've now taken a step back defensively.

so what you're saying...is that Jeff Francoeur should leave baseball and go open his own school?
i like it!
let's just hope it's bigger than this one...

Did Brandon Jones run over Bobby's dog?
I don't really mind Schafer being sent down, that will help him, but why Greg White is called up before Brandon kills me...

Ditto. Brandon can play CF. He's not a prototypical CFer but he'd do just a good of job as GG.

I agree with all your post. Schafer's struggles were to be expected. He was still doing the things we knew he could do and is learning on the job. He's with the best hitting coach in the organization when in Atlanta (not TP, that #10 guy). The best thing that could come from this is that he goes down, relaxes a little bit and starts hitting quickly and is brought back up when he gets his swing going.

Ahem (http://www.braves-nation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14522)
I'll reiterate what I keep saying, if Gregor Blanco is anywhere near our center field I'm changing baseball teams. The dude is a waste of talent. How can you be that fast and walk that much but manage to steal 13 bases? It's absurd. At least Josh Anderson would give us a stolen base threat and not look like a Venezuelan Adam Dunn in the outfield. We all know who should win the spot if everything was clear cut and not influenced by the super-two stuff.
Who wants to help me pick another team to cheer for?

I'm not going to disagree with this, even though Blanco hasn't been too great himself in Gwinnett. I expected us to stick with Schafer for the whole season. But when you are a rookie, hitting .206 coming out of AA ball something has to be done, I guess. I think we'll see a better and more improved Schafer, by the first week of July.

Escobar SS
Jones SS
McCann C
Anderson LF
Prado 1B
Francoeur RF
Blanco CF
Kawakami P

As much as I would prefer Francoer to be sent down, I don't mind this swap. Im talking about just this swap. For now I think alteast Blanco will not be an all or nothing type guy. Even when he makes an out, atleast he puts the ball in play. People keep talking about Scaefers speed, but he was never stealing bases up here anyways, nor was he a threat (some of this can be put on Bobby).
Atleast with this move I am hoping Blanco will hit leadoff, move kelly down to the 5 or 6 hole and hopefully francoer will bat 8th.

Hey that's a pretty good best-case scenario though if it gets him hitting in Atlanta. And what's the worst-case? The Atlanta Braves still suck, and Schafer isn't getting his MLB cuts (he's still getting work at a higher level than he's ever played before 2009--not like it's a total waste of his time). Blanco can't hurt us too much...hell even in his abysmal second half last year he posted better numbers than Schafer has so far. Assuming Schafer isn't down there for very long, this is fine.

I know Chipper was a SS coming up through the system, but I had no idea he still had the range to play there now.
I bet Schafer didn't make some jackass remark like dampering a relationship or some queer thing like that.

Sucks that he wasn't able to do as well as he did in the minors and in spring training, but this probably had to be done.
Next step is to take action on Francoeur.

How can you not at least want a change from Schafer? The kid is lost, it's so apparent. Blanco is hot and he plays good defense, why not give him a shot? He certainly can't be any worse.

As long as this doesn't put a damper on Schafer's relationship with the Atlanta Braves, I'm fine with it. A little bit of time at Gwinnett should do him well. Blanco's not the bat we need, but at least he's proven he can get on base enough to not be a complete liabilty.

That's why Escobar is also playing there. He can provide the range while Chipper gets everything hit right to him.

OBP isn't important, remember? Besides, now that Schafer's no longer going to be hitting behind Jeff, he'll start to get better pitches to hit... right?

You mean like not striking out 99 times in 519 plate appearances last year? Or his 38 strikeouts in 220 plate appearances in triple-a this year?

Blanco's good defensively? Who knew... I guess that 2.40 RF/9 last year in CF and the noodle for an arm gets mistaken for good defense.

I root for the Rangers becuase they have my favorite player. They are just never on TV. Go Rangers! I bet all of my possessions that they make the postseason before we do.

I think Cox made the mistake coming right out of spring training by putting Schafer in the 8 hole. He had him hitting leadoff all spring long, and then the season starts and he puts him 8th. I think that kind of got Jordan down a bit, and of course hitting 2 home runs in 3 games didn't help him shorten his swing any either.
I'm selfish being a Gwinnett Braves season ticket holder, in that I like this swap as now I'll actually get to see Schafer up close in personal. I might have to take me a baseball to the game and get his autograph now. I'll be sure to post some pictures from this weekends games as they are home.
I think Blanco will be nice to add to the lineup and give him a chance to sort of redeem himself from his performance last year. I just think Bobby is doing an injustice by not putting the fastest guys on the team in the leadoff spot and letting them show that they belong there. So you bring Blanco up and put him 8th? WHY????

Lead-off is all about putting yourself in scoring posistion. Speed is nowhere near as important when you've got a doubles machine in either KJ or Escobar hitting up there. Gregor should be hitting 8th because he's one of the weaker hitters on the team. Putting him at 8 gives him fewer at-bats over the course of the year, meaning fewer chances for him to eff up.
