Man, next year is going to be rough. I assume either Tim Raines or Rich Gossage will get selection. Raines, though, has a drug background.

looks like rice/gossage will have a good chance next year with that weak 2008 class, i think mcgwire will get a lot higher % next year too, but im not sure he ever gets in

I think McGwire will get the vote sometime soon. To be a first ballot, you have to be one of the best to ever play, as Ripken and Gwynn are. McGwire isn't that, add in all the controversy surrounding him and it makes him an easy choice to have not made it. He deserves to be in the HOF, he just doesn't deserve to be in on the first try.

Still think Bert Blyleven deserves more recognition that Rice.

Oh, please.

Another year of Dale Murphy getting cheated out of the Hall of Fame.

This makes me sick.

Still think that if the writers are so caught up in the steroid debate that it costs McGwire votes, Murphy should get more than he does. Dale Murphy made a sheet of paper look tough, one of the best players in his decade, and still can't get it ... and won't now because his numbers will be compared to those of today, not his day.

Dale Murphy, and I realize this won't play, wasn't that good. Sure, he was great from 1982 to 1987, but before and after that, he wasn't that good. If we are going to award Hall of Fame selections to people who had a nice period of their career, we may as well put Albert Belle in.

I won't argue that fact, but if you compare him to the players of the 80s, Murphy got more hits and scored more runs than anyone in the National League. He tied Mike Schmidt for most RBI and was second to Schmidt in homers. That and two MVPs and 5 Gold Gloves.

He may not deserve to get in, but how he only gets 50 votes is beyond me. In his day, he was an elite player. Elite players belong in the HOF, though I understand the argument against him in the fact that his peak years weren't long enough.
