I wouldn't say the coach with the most wins of all time is overrated to any degree.

Wow, the opinions that some people have.

Overrated? Best coach in the history of college basketball, maybe in all of basketball, with the exception of Coach Wooden.

He adapts to the game, motivates his kids, and puts his kids in a position to succeed better than anyone to have ever walked the sidelines. Plus, he's had to deal with some pretty good egos along the way.

Without Bob Knight, there wouldn't be a Coach Alford in Iowa or Coach K in Duke.

He certainly isn't overrated, look at his 3 National Titles, and 880 victories then add in all the talent he had (aka none) and I think he is underrated.

1. John Wooden
2. Dean Smith
3. Bobby Knight
4. Coach K
5. Jim Calhoun

And plus, no one has mentioned yet that unlike Coach K or Dean Smith or whomever, the only real big-time All-Star he has been able to produce is Isiah Thomas. He simply has never had the talent others have had.

maybe i shouldnt have said overrated, I just get tired of all the media attention he gets when there are plenty of other great coaches out there.

Yes i am biased in saying this, but I think Jimmy Boeheim is just as good of a coach as Knight.

The press wasn't about Coach Knight, it was about to a great coach who was on the verge of accomplishing a huge feat.

yeah, but you cant deny the fact that Knight always gets a lot of media attention. He is a great coach, but the media loves him like Dickie V loved JJ Reddick. Give me Boeheim any day.

I don't agreee that the media "loves" him. I believe they like having him around because he's controversial and breaking this wins record is one of the few times they give him credit for his on-the-court accomplishments. His graduation rate also deserves praise.

Yes! I watch coaches specifically to learn more about coaching, I wish more would do this and watch Bobby Knight go about his business instead of getting caught up in the controversy that is created on his behalf. I'm glad he's getting praise for what he does. It's horrible that up to this point, he's been more known for throwing a chair across a court and getting physical with players.

Also, great point about his graduation rates. Coaches that graduate players don't get the credit they deserve. It shows he makes a commitment to what they're really in school for, and shows the type of people he recruits.

If any thing, the media, although they do give him considerable attention, hate him. All the run-ins he's had makes the media hate him, but alas, he is irresistable to them.
