View Full Version : gamethreads vs chat

the question is simple...
when the season rolls around, would you prefer to cover the games in gamethreads or in the chat?
the reasoning behind this poll is because the idea for the chat is as follows:
during the game, we sit in the chat and comment on the game, players, etc. and then it would be posted into a thread for anyone that wants to read it or reference it. the problem with this (as it has been brought to my attention) is that a "copy and paste" of the chatroom would be terribly difficult to follow. McCarroll brings the idea of between innings (or half-innings), it's declared where we are...so that way when it is posted in a thread it's easier to follow.
we aren't necessarily going to decide based on this poll, but we were curious as to what the members thought, because ultimately we're trying to make your experience here on Braves-Nation.com the best it can be.
so vote and if you'd like, give your pros/cons or reasoning behind your vote.
thanks!

As Chief said, the vote won't determine an answer, we're looking more for comments as to which one you would prefer and if you have any concerns with one or the other. We don't want to use the chat and then come to the realization that gamethreads were the way to go, and vice versa.
Replies are more important than just voting. We want to be able to either make a decision about what is best or be able to take time to have an answer for any concerns before we have to answer them on the fly.
Go with the gamethreads. I think they'd be much easier to follow, especially for those of us who don't necessarily get many of the games on tv

I concur.

I'd say we just stick with the gamethread. What are the advantages of "chatting" in the chat area as opposed to "chatting" in a gamethread?

In the chat, you get a realtime discussion as opposed to a discussion with a slight delay.
Because the gamethreads are in this exact same format, they're much more organized, though.

That's what I thought. I didn't know if there was any other real advantage to chat so I would definitely say stick with the gamethread.

Another advantage to chats is spamming chats wouldn't effect post count, but it's something we can live with. I'm kind of interested to see what it would be like, but then again I'm one of those that likes to stay with what I'm used to.
Personally, it doesn't matter to me. Both options will always be there.

I'll end up testing both .. bec the realtime affect does seem attractive.
(we can just cut it loose in there)

I'll say chat, because I never read gamethreads, so I got nothing to lose.

Well, I say the chat because you can post stuff like "lol" or :) without it being spam. Plus, realtime is cooler than a delay. Its not fair that the post counts for people who are there during gamethreads gets pimped. But, the people like Nasedaga who could be asleep in France, don't get that.

Postcounts should be completely irrelevent. Anyon who gives so much as one ounce of a crap about them has no business being here, or anywhere else for that matter.
I vote strongly towards the gamethreads. They are much more organized, and a lot easier for those of us who may not be participating to join into. If you join the chat midway through a game, you don't really know what's been discussed yet, or other's thoughts if something has. In the gamethread, all you've gotta do is read through a couple posts and find out easily. Not to mention, keeping it in the gamethread would (re: should) keep away any stupid comments that would no doubt litter the chatroom. If I'm reading through a log of the chat, I don't want to waste my time seeing someone saying "lol" or some other useless crap every third line.

BGarrett brings the best reasons to the plate and I have to say I agree with him.
The chat would be good if everyone were to start together or relatively close, but gamethreads would be better for those that wouldn't be arriving with the rest of us.
Just as a note, I voted for chat but after thinking about some of these reasons, I'd say gamethreads is the way to go. We'll work to come up with certain things to keep the chat useful for those of us that would like to use it. And it's always there to just talk to people, but please ... don't spam anyone trying to get them to chat with you (hotcorner :D).

I vote for gamethreads as well, mainly for the organization and more significant posts. I think archiving them is much easier as well. Maybe we could use the chat for the after game discussion?

Voted for the gamethreads.
I think the chat would be too much of a play by play discussion, if I want to see that I'll open the gameday resume on mlb.com Gamethreads are enough to keep our reactions on big plays and some other stuff.
Plus, as I watch games on mlb.tv in france I often have a huge delay, between 1 pitch and 1 at bat. In a chat I'd be spoiled on all pitches, this would suck

Nas, that's been thought about too. The delay between cable and satellite, and the delay between either of those and if you're watching online. I think we can do this like a pre and post-game thing in the chatroom for those there, and then the "in-game" stuff takes place in the gamethreads.

I'm past that stage.....
And in response to you BGarrett, I was simply making a point. That was completely irrational to say something like "You don't belong anywhere" just because I was saying something. I think that is what there is no place for, whether it be on Braves Nation or anywhere else.

hotcorner, I don't think he was singling you out. I think he was just saying if you're that worried about post count, you shouldn't be here or anywhere else. Post counts shouldn't matter, but unfortunately, on some message boards if you don't have a high post count you're looked at as clueless.
Won't be happening here, but it happens in other places.

McCarroll, I left him a negative rep comment on that post, could you delete that please for me?
