just read on mlb's hot stove blog that Wren as inquired about Scott Olsen.....they are looking for bullpen help and catching. Would be a good trade i think Olsen has some good upside.

Olsen is a starter....
Yes please. Talent Talent Talent. And a much needed lefty. Only arguement anyone can put up is his attitude, but that's one thing Bobby is good for is controlling players.

that is a big issue with olsen...his attitude. anyone remember the game when he got into Miguel Cabrera's face and Girardi had to pull him by the jersey and get in his face. Hopefully none of that happens and if we can pull of a trade then he'd just try to stick it to the marlins every time he's on the hill.

Couple things on Olsen, yes he has an attitude and got in the face of Miggy but how many players on the Braves half-ass it like Miggy does? Secondly if we did acquire Olsen, you stick him in the 4-slot and call it a day.

I'd gladly take his 2006 or 2008 season and plug it into the back of our rotation, but the 2007 season scares me.

I'm not a big fan of Olsen, but I'd certainly take him over some of the stuff we ran out there last year. I'd rather have him in our rotation than trying to bring back Glavine or going into the season relying on Campillo to be in our rotation.
He's still just 24 years old (25 in January) so there's definitely some hope that he's got better days ahead. The one thing I like is that he's made over 30 starts in each of the last three years. He topped 200 innings last year. I don't recall any attitude issues last year, either. I know his 2007 season was marred by some off the field stuff, namely getting a taste of the taser from the Miami police.
What I don't like about Olsen is that he's either really good or really bad, there's no real in the middle with him.
Last year he had a 1.60 ERA in his 8 wins and a 6.38 ERA in his 11 losses. Over his career it's a 2.28 to 7.31 split. I know pitchers are always going to be worse in their losses than they are in their wins, but when I think about watching Olsen, I remember thinking that you could tell how the game was going to go by the first or second inning. The stats show this, as well.

I can't stand Olsen, I think he is completely nuts. But I do think Bobby could handle him and he might be a good addition for us.
Who do you think we would have to trade for him?

would be worth the risk, but I don't see how Olsen goes any where but Texas...sure we have catching depth, but Texas offers the same thing plus the ability to get him out of the NL....

We used to have catching depth, but now we really don't have one in the wings besides Flow, and I wouldn't trade Flow to get Olsen.

Yeah, if I'm putting Flowers in a deal to Florida for pitching, I'm getting Nolasco or Volstad back.

Well, suppposedly, the Red Sox talked with the Rangers about getting Saltalamacchia, or one of their other catchers, or Buchholtz or Bowden.

Curiosity, and I apologize if it's already been addressed, but why would he want out of the NL?
And like Aimee said, what do you think we'd have to offer?

I think he was meaning the Marlins could get him out of the NL so they wouldn't have to face him.
