The Braves get the Wild Card. If the Braves win out (9 games) they will have a record of 84-78. The Dodgers will have to go 4-5 and the Phillies would have to go 5-5 for the Braves to be tied for the WC and have a three team playoff for the WC.

Well, our tragic number is a mere five with nine games to go, things aren't looking very good at all, especially since there are also three teams between us and the Dodgers. Not only would we have to essentially win out the remainder of our schedule, but we would also need four teams to self-destruct with a week and a half left. If I were a betting man, there is no way in hell I would be putting any amount of money down on us making the playoffs this season. I think the most fitting word at this point would be impossible.

It's still possible, but not likely. I do think we still have a good chance at getting to 82-80 though. Of course, we'll have to play very well to even do that.

And are we going to pick up Smoltz' option? Or is he too old and we can't afford it?
