Mike Hampton threw 5 innings tonight in AA Mississippi.
5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 4 SO
Bill Shanks was at the game, here are some of his comments. (http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=248&f=2070&t=2666434)
He said he (Hampton) was stretching out his hamstring in the 4th, but he stayed in the game. After the game, he said he was "ok".
I won't get mad or happy until I see him on a MLB mound. I could care one way or another if he pitches for us, our rotation is not the problem. Maybe we could bat Hampton 7th and play LF?

I'd give him another start on Tuesday.

Blah. I don't care if he says he was OK or not. When it comes to Hampton, this part bothers me.

Same. Give him another start and let him come back on Sunday.

I would really like to see Hampton back in the bigs...i think that he could actually help our club, despite all the injury setbacks.
We might should let him play RF when he's not pitching. :)

I know our rotation is not the problem but I'd like to see someone like Campillo in the pen to help out there and Hampton pitching

It'll be interesting to see if they do that or bump Morton down to AAA.

I think I'd be OK with either right now, though I'd rather Campillo stay in the rotation. Campillo has done better than expected since being moved to the rotation and has earned his spot there, but it wouldn't bother me to see him go back to being the long reliever. Morton has had his ups and downs, which is to be expected. I wouldn't be too disappointed to see him stay up and continue to take his lumps, but I'd like to see him sent down and just be called up again if we need him.

Still don't care until Hampton throws AN inning for Atlanta!

I'd rather have Campi in the rotation and send Hampton's pussy ass to the pen. If he throws too many innings in the majors the more likely he is to strain his labia minora.

Shit if we put him in the pen and he doesnt pitch enough he may hurt himself too....damned if you do...damned if you don't....

Just because he gets hurt a lot doesn't mean he isn't a better pitcher than Campillo or Morton.

Agree which is why you give him a chance back at the rotation.

I'm still waiting for him to pitch for Atlanta...not some minor league team. I really don't care about what he does in the minors.
We could put him in the outfield every day too!

That's why I'd go ahead and send Morton down. He can compete for a spot next spring -- unless he's needed again this year. Campillo has been great for us this year and has earned his spot in the rotation. Keep him there and send Morton down, that way they'll both stay stretched out and be able to start in case Hampton gets hurt again.

With all the arm problems he's had, if Mike Hampton were younger, I'd seriously think about doing the Ankiel-type conversion and convert him to a position player...oh wait since Jeff Francoeur is our starting right fielder...let's do it anyways!
He injured his Quad in his start today. Shocker.

That's been a pretty bizarre game so far.
We have 6 stolen bases so far in only 2 innings, including 1 of home by one of our pitchers, Medlen, who doubled as a pinch hitter for Hampton. He didn't stay in to pitch either.

I think it's gotten to a point now where he seriously has to consider retiring. He's been rehabbing for what, almost three years now? Every time he makes a start, he pulls, tweaks, strains, sprains or tears something. You've had a nice career, but it's time to hang 'em up, Mike.

i would hope he would retire...if it were me i would.
i mean, i know that the fire probably still burns and he doesn't want to end his career like this but damn! dude just can't stay healthy very long at all.

Kris Medlen stole Home?!?!?
Somebody get this guy up in the bigs, he can pinch run and pitch mop-up, or tight situations, I mean hell they've let Acosta do it all year.

Kris Medlen stealing home is what gets me...much more surprising than another Hampton injury. I wonder if that was Phil Wellman's idea...

I still feel bad for him, then I realize he's made like $200 million in his career and find a way to sleep at night.
Love the thread title change LOL. Who cares atleast Morton gets more time to shine.

I would stick him at Richmond and let him try to prove he still is a big league pitcher. He can always opt out to test the waters.

How do you stick him in Richmond to prove anything when he can't make it through 10 innings on a rehab?

It'll give Richmond a new marketing campaign for their last season:
GUESS MIKE HAMPTON'S NEXT INJURY!

If it's his hamstring, he was said to be stretching out that hamstring during his last start. It may have been smart to give him a few more days. It's not a guarantee it would help any, but I'm guessing that's the same hamstring that brought him home early from the Mexican League? That was 8 months ago, which shows you just how fragile he is.

I don't really think it matters which body part of his is hurting, the shocking thing to me is that he has healthy body parts to actually hurt anymore.
