Ugh Norton! I thought Anderson did okay from the 2 innings I saw yesterday.

McCarroll21
06-01-2008, 01:39 PM
Yeah, well... Norton wasn't all that bad.

I can take him in left a little more often knowing we have a true outfielder to use as a defensive replacement. Kinda like Diaz vs. Langerhans back in 2006; Diaz sucked at playing LF but he hit his way into the lineup. Langerhans would take over in late innings though if we had a lead.

I am not sure where to post this.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Braves called the Athletics about Joe Blanton but “did not come close to meeting Oakland’s price. http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-us&brand=foxsports&vid=875f5739-d851-4e6e-ad58-45b9a51fa864&playlist=&editor=&from=FOXSPORTS&fg=/mlb&rf=http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb

This team has been such a drag to watch when on the road. I can't believe that this issue continues to persist. Now we're being no-hit by some guy with a 6+ era and the two guys I have the most confidence in (huddy and JJ) have been off. This road series can't end fast enough. The upcoming week is as crucial as it can be this time in the season.

He needs to be in RF. He's just not a CF, really. I read something the other day saying his future was in RF.

With Keppinger and Gonzalez getting close to being back, they could move Hairston back to CF and keep him in the leadoff role by shifting Bruce to RF. That would allow one of Keppinger and Gonzalez to play SS.

There is no coming down to earth, hes proved hes a big league hitter and can follow up last years performance with a solid one this year.

Contribute it to a slump. And get over it, they are all gonna go through it this year.

it has more to do with his walk rate and power. in the minors that was the major concern with him. his walk rate was good at times and he didnt have much power. and the concern was that if he was going to hit 310 (which is hard to do. and a persons average will fluctuate as well) his overall numbers would drop.

im not trying to say yunel isn't a big leaguer. he clearly is. but offensively he's likely a high 700 OPS guy with an average around 300. that's not bad by any means. but it's a lot different then the guy some have tried to pump him up to be.

He's really not a bad hitter, just a slow start, he's at least an average hitter. Putting someone in front of Chipper brings almost automatic success. (re: Marcus Giles, Yunel Escobar, Andruw Jones (2000 - hit .336 I believe)

Just get ready for a one-run loss so you don't get disappointed later.

pete just said what i was waiting to hear. if we lose this by 1 run. it will be the 21st 1 run loss in a row on the road. that would tie a major league record with the royals of 2000-2001. thats what we have become...

He's really not a bad hitter, just a slow start, he's at least an average hitter. Putting someone in front of Chipper brings almost automatic success. (re: Marcus Giles, Yunel Escobar, Andruw Jones (2000 - hit .336 I believe)

for a right fielder he is a bad hitter. among the worst in baseball.

Worst RF in baseball? Come on now. He almost hit .300 last year, knocked in 100, won a Gold Glove. Jeff's power was down, and he needs to learn to work the count. He walked more last year. To say, as McCarroll does that he's not the "natural" is one thing. To say he's horrible is another.

I think this rock bottom start may be good for him. He's working extra hard with Terry. He's trying.

OPS is one of the best single stats to see how good a player is performing offensively. it isn't perfect but it's good enough. and vlad is having a bad year.

pretty simple it's like this. if your a corner outfielder and you don't have an OPS over 800. you are performing below average. and if its in the low 700's its awful.
