I don't really consider it a "B" lineup when you consider who's out...Kotsay, who went 1-5 in game one, Frenchy...already been over discussed on this MB, and McCann who was going to sit tonight anyway. Infante is playing well, Matty needs some at bats, and Corky is Corky.

I'm just saying compared to the first game's lineup, it is. Diaz, Infante and Miller is a downgrade from Francoeur, Kotsay and McCann, especially at the catcher position.
Either way, I still see them being able to score enough to beat the Mets.

If they put Jeff in just to save the streak, that's going to piss me off. If he comes in to pinch hit in a spot where it makes sense for it, that's great. If it's just one of those things where they use him just so he appears in the game, it'll really piss me off because that'd be so unlike Bobby.
I think we're all on the same page with the streak in that it doesn't matter, but if he appears just to appear to keep the streak, that'll piss me off. If the streak gets to a point that they really talk it up, I would hope everyone would remember the "meaningless pinch hit appearance" on May 20, 2008.
Chopin_Mets
05-20-2008, 07:41 PM
well, they've uncovered the tarp, got the John Deere's on it and the grounds crew is lined up in the outfield to cover the field at the first sight of a rain drop.

Baseball rule 10.24 (c) states: "A consecutive game playing streak shall be extended if the player plays one half-inning on defense or if he completes a time at bat by reaching base or being put out."

I don't like how they're making it out to be that Jorge has never started before and it's completely new to him. It's only new to him on the major league level.
He started 22 of 24 games last year in the minors with Tacoma and 9 of 10 games in 2006 after comeing back from Tommy John. He started 16 of 16 games in 2005 in the minors.
It's not new to him, it's just that he hasn't done it in the majors.

Radio, probably.
I don't like it. McCann's value is him behind the plate calling games. Sure he's got a great bat and catching takes him out of the lineup, but putting him at first base kills everything.
Now, if Sammons is the backup and McCann goes to 1B on his "off days," that's a different story.
All this said, Sammons is doing everything he should have to do right now to be our backup. He's a better defensive catcher than Miller and he's hitting the ball pretty well at Triple-A.
True, but how are Matty's catching skills? I've always heard that he'd be the emergency catcher, but I've never seen him actually catch.

After thinking about it, I think they should take Beasley. They need a post scorer and I think Beasley is another Carlos Boozer. That'd give them a Noah, Beasley, Deng, Hughes, and Hinrich starting lineup with Thomas, Gooden, Nocioni, and Gordon on the bench.

It makes sense when you have a salary cap. You trade a guy who is on the books for many years and get an expiring contract which opens up cap room for the next offseason. I'd take the NBA salary structure any day over the MLB.
