anyone else here play either Out Of The Park Baseball and/or Baseball Mogul?

i started playing Out of the Park back in February and i love it. something i always found myself doing in MVP would be playing the games for a while and then ultimately sitting back and playing more of a Manager/GM role. so when i sat down and played OOTP it was exactly what i was looking for.

you can manage a game if you'd like or you can let the players do their thing and just run the organization. i love it.

anyone interested should look into it - OOTP8 is currently $19.99 or you can pre-order OOTP9 for $24.99, not bad prices for some really in depth, fun baseball games.

I have a 28-year Braves franchise (since 1967) going in Baseball Mogul. I used to play OOTP and it has some nice HTML reports but now I really prefer Mogul for speed and realism and the new Play-By-Play plus it automatically loads in the historical players each season.

I have BM, and I'm in a league with it. It's pretty fun, just hard to find time for it.

I probably played over 300 seasons with Season Ticket Baseball, which eventually was developed into OOTP. After finding OOTP 5 for free a couple years ago I've probably played 75 seasons. I tried a free version of Baseball Mogul but found it to be rather bad and haven't looked into any of the newer versions since. I've also played some ITP, which I thought was fun but apparently it never caught on as well as I'd expect it to have.

i've seen a few references to ITP, how did it compare to OOTP?

It's basically OOTP 6 except you're the player instead of the manager. As a player you can get drunk and get into fights, buy equipment, set up workout routines, etc. I suggest downloading the free demo and seeing if you like it. The free demo can be found here.

I've played Baseball Mogul, it seemed interesting but I'm more action oriented. I'm about 80 games into a full season with MVP Baseball 2005, with the 1994 season mod. McGriff is hitting .406 for me.

i'm still learning the ropes of OOTP. finally have the option years enabled, trading of draft picks, etc.

i just had my most consistent span of seasons. 5 seasons of at least .500 (which is usually all that the ownership was asking of me) including one post season birth and playing for a post season birth on the last day.

then at the beginning of the 6th season the team started 18 - 30 and i was fired. i simmed the rest of the year and the team finished a little under .500.

i am loving OOTP and i can't wait for OOTP9 to come out in June.

i'm loving OOTP more and more each time i play it...i'm starting a career as the GM/Manager of the 1901 Boston Beaneaters

If you like OOTP you would probrobly Inside The Park. They are simular games.

i'd like to bump this strictly to say that OOTP9 is very badass.

McCarroll can also vouch for the game.

so for those of you who like the simming aspect of baseball video games moreso than the playing part...OOTP is for you.

and then you can be like the cool kids who play OOTP and talk about it in the chat. :D

for those of you wanting to try OOTP but don't want to drop $39.99 for it, i have some news.

there is going to be an All Star Break promotion coming up very soon...the website says early in the week. when the information is out, i'll post it here and maybe a few more people will buy into the cult of OOTP.

oh...and if you decide to buy and don't like it, they give you a refund within the first 14 days no matter what.

i know it sounds like i'm shilling for them but i'd like to talk to others here about OOTP. McCarroll and i can only talk about it so much.

It's a good game. I haven't had the time to sit and do much with mine the last couple days but it is what it says. If you like to play your baseball games as more of a general manager, it's what you want.

agreed. i love playing the role of GM and seeing if the hunch that i have about a player pays off.

it's weird because you seem to develop loyalties to players on your team. McCarroll and i have discussed the loyalty thing and he has said the same.

one of my favorite players is coming to the end of his career, he's now my backup 1B after being the starting 1B for about 17 seasons. i claimed him off waivers and he's gone on to hit over 600 HR's.

as you can see here, his stats are deteriorating:

I've traded both Chipper and Teixeira after signing them to long-term deals. I think I may start a thread talking about my team and update it after every month of simming or so.

i'm struggling.. 22-23.. i'm trade happy. i've been hit with the injury bug already though, and bad.. kotsay and KJ have done nothing, and jair went 1-6 before getting injured and he's out for a month.

I'm currently in 2009. I signed Chipper long term in 2008 and he proceeded to hit .370 with 33 homeruns!

furthermore proof of this:

i get on today.. sell at the trade deadline, get through the season, make some good moves.. and i get to opening day. at which point right before i save my computer mysteriously shuts off on me.

On August 17th 2009, John Smoltz has announced that he will retire at the end of the season. :(

He went 15-8 with a 3.43 ERA last year and is currently 13-4 with a 3.02 ERA so he is gonna be a tough guy to replace.

go into game setup and tell the game to auto-save every month as opposed to every year.

that sucks. but probably for the best because at his age...and putting up back to back solid seasons, he's probably gonna fall off.

can you do anything to change his mind?

not that i'm aware of. the closest thing you could do is go into a commish profile and unretire him. but that's no fun, it takes all of the challenge away.

i have never found such an addicting/frustrating game.. i've been through 4 seasons - 2 .500 ish seasons and 2 where i was 2 or 3 games outta the east.

McCarroll21
07-19-2008, 05:38 PM
I was 18 games below .500 at the all-star break one year. I fired my pitching coach and moved one up from Triple-A along with firing my bench coach and bringing in some guy from the outside. I finished the season at like two games below .500 and was a game or two over .500 with about a week left.

731BravesFan

damn.. my problem is injuries.. i was 2 games up with about 15 games left in the east this past season.. and schafer and granderson go down.. and both of them are two of my top players.. but i fill in, and with about 10 games left im only one game out.. and then freddie freeman goes down and i can't get any offense and finish 3 games out.

that's something that i love about this game. your pitching coach, hitting coach, etc. will have a direct effect on the performance of your team.

my long time 1B finally retired. if you look over his stats, his last few years were nothing more than him being a back-up for my new 5 star 1B.

Phil O'Brennon (http://lopezandsheets.com/stuff/ootp/player_25658.html)

nice career. you should come back and get just 15 more hit to get up to 3,000 hits!

holy shit...it took me until 2012 but i got the KC Royals in the playoffs.

went 5 games against the Mariners and then lost 4-1 to the Indians in the ALCS.

Alex Gordon was eligible to be a free agent and i couldn't resign him so i dealt him to the Braves for Freddie Freeman and some other guy. there is only one player on my Royals that has a real picture with a Royals hat on - Neal Musser.
