This is a non keeper league.

I get B.J. Ryan, he gets Carlos Guillen.

My other closers are Soria and Fuentes, but I got Smoltz on the DL. I am assuming he will be our closer when he comes back. I have Theriot and Drew as other SS's and Tex and Jacobs as other 1b (Guillen is 1B and SS eligible).

Thoughts?

Ryan won't be pitching on back-to-back days for a while, thus limiting the save chances he'll get. I'm not sure if I would do it, reason being you can always find a closer on the waiver wire (I'm assuming that's how you got Fuentes). It's harder to find a hitter you can count on than a closer.

Guillen is more valuable than Ryan IMHO, but if Guillen is keeping either Jacobs or Theriot on the bench it might make sense. Otherwise just pick up a stopgap F/A closer and hang in there until Smoltz gets back.

My thoughts on trading for closers are it better be an elite closer (Rivera, Putz, etc.) as Mac said, you can find closers on the waiver wire rather easily if you pay attention.

No way I trade Guillen for Ryan.

Yeah I would have to agree with you guys. Minus the injury Ryan would be a top notch closer, but with the injury concerns it's prob not worth it. While it wouldn't kill my team to lose him, I could probably get some more value for him, or at least deal away a Theriot later on in the season, when the roles on my team start to shape up. With a fair amount of young players, im still not completely sure on what I can get out of them.

Try to get get another SP thrown in with Ryan, then I'd do that trade.
