Wow. Jorge Sosa sure is blowing the game for the Mets. It was a one game going into the inning and now it's a six.
Heillman or whatever his name is started the inning and gave up two runs and left two on base for the pie homer.

Good to see he's up to his old tricks.

Maybe he's still a Brave at heart and is helping us out.. ;)

“A Boone reached on infield single to third, A Kearns scored, J Estrada to second, J Estrada to third, A Boone to first on throwing error by third baseman C Jones.A Boone out at second.”

What the hell is this? The scorer is either drunk, or... no he's drunk.

I always call Felix "pie" and not "pee-ay", because it's more fun. :p Thanks for the homer off of Sosa, Pie-man!

According to my scorecard, I gave Boone a hit and I later added an E5 on that play.

Either a hit or an error. How do you have a hit and reach first on an error on the same play?

Almost 17,000? Wow, weekday game + Nationals = Nobody showing up whatsoever. That's a good number for a basketball game, but definitely not a baseball game.

But who cares, we won!

I went to the game on Friday (Dodgers). We got there at game time.. The line was all the way through the cue and all the way out the main gate, and down the street. Baseball attendance is weird, if it is a big game, and the team is playing well, it will be packed. If the 'casual fan' isn't interested in the game, and it isn't a weekend game, it will often be empty.

On TV it looked pretty horrible though.

1. It's a monday
2. It's the Nats
3. School isn't out
4. Atlanta isn't NY (population wise)

What do people expect? We put up 46000+ on the weekends right?

For a game such as this, I guess it's normal to have a crowd like that. This isn't the Bronx, Boston, or Wrigley where they'd sell out to see their respective team's hat on home plate for 3 hours.

Do you think that will increase attendance in the future at least a little bit?

I was wondering the same thing. But surely they had more to gain from having the national exposure, and all the advertising that went along with having the games on TBS than they do from conning 1,000 extra people into the stands. perhaps it used to be that way, but now it's different since the team owner doesn't also own the station.

Ted Turner built a huge media empire by leveraging off the "Superstation," and the Braves were one of the things that made it "Super." For Turner, making the Braves into "America's Team" by televising all the games nationwide was one small part of a brilliant, comprehensive, long-term strategy that dwarfed the importance of putting people in the stadium seats. Now some casual Braves fans are a little turned off on baseball because it's no longer as easy to watch as it was in the past. I doubt the current dissatisfaction with Braves telecasts will put MORE butts in the seats - maybe the opposite.

i question the amount of influence that having all games televised has on discouraging people from going to the game. the YES network televises probably 155 of the Yankees games. and they sell out all the time

The difference is that TBS broadcast most Braves games for almost the whole time the team has been in Atlanta and as long as most Braves fans have been alive, while the YES Network is a relatively recent development in the overall history of the Yankees.

Even better examples that support your point are the Cubs and Mets, who both had most games on TV and national cable exposure but still had good attendance. The difference, though, is that in NY and Chicago attending ballgames in person was already a habit that predated pervasive TV exposure.
